Well, really, it's a Tarzan movie. Almost every Tarzan movie since the Weissmuller era has been an unmitigated bomb both critically and commercially, the only exceptions being the 1984 British film and the 1999 Disney film (the 1981 Bo Derek vehicle was one of those movies that managed to make a reasonable return, but was ultimately hated by critics & audiences alike). That producers are still willing to throw money at Tarzan projects (IMDB says the new one has a $180m budget. Yowza) shows how ridiculously out of touch they are.

I think the only thing worse than a bullshit "strong woman" female character in a movie is a female character that they try to portray as BOTH a stronk independent womyn while at the same time being a damsel in distress because the writers think they need to do the former to make up for the latter.
