They seriously need to recast the part of Euron Greyjoy. Literally the worst British accent in the history of series. Why not just cast a British actor instead of a Dane.

they literally do not care

nobody wants to make the show anymore

I don't even know why these faggots have any english accents to begin with since the books are written by an american and they use american english. I don't remember anyone in the books saying shit like bugger this, it has always been fuck.

The actor is fine. The writing, however, isn't.

That was the dumbest fucking line.

American accents in anything remotely close to a Medieval setting are really jarring.

It doesn't matter anymore. The show is the show, it's not meant to be good. Just watch it and try to be entertained.

Suck a dick faggot. Hearing britfags talk pisses me off regardless of timeline. It pisses me off especially when it related to medieval times because it implies brits were the only people that existed then and we know that's not fact.

You do know that the "American" accent was the normal accent for the English for many centuries, right? The "British" accent that we associate with the area today was a result of the aristocracy looking for a way to distinguish itself from the lower classes, so they made up a ridiculous sounding accent to accompany their goofy way of dressing. As everybody knows, the poor imitate the rich, and the accent stuck.

>>
>>69990669

It's ok, he's going to die soon, he signed his death warrant by saying "I'm going to give Dany my big fat cock." So he's gonna build a fuckton of ships, travel to Dany, be real rapey toward her, get killed and have his fleet stolen so Dany can travel to the mainland.

It's the most obviously telegraphed shit ever.
>>
>>69995455

>>
>>69995389
>It was around the time of the American Revolution that non-rhotic speech came into use among the upper class in southern England, in and around London.
>this shift occurred because people of low birth rank who had become wealthy during the Industrial Revolution were seeking ways to distinguish themselves from other commoners; they cultivated the prestigious non-rhotic pronunciation in order to demonstrate their new upper-class status.
>The lofty manner of speech developed by these specialists gradually became standardized — it is officially called "Received Pronunciation" — and it spread across Britain.
The way a large part of the English population speaks today is largely from the mimicry of the upper class' goofy speech that evolved from them trying to distinguish themselves from the lower economic and social groups. Before that time, most parts of both England and the American Colonies spoke with similar accent, the "American" one that we hear today.
>>
>>69995504

Dany and her army probably can't fit on only two boats, but I'm sure they'll come into play somehow

Literally most of the 13 colonies have unique accents today. What in your mind is the 'american' accent?

The idea that colonial americans spoke like Mel Gibson in the Patriot is a meme bro. There are dozens of american accents, and even more regional british ones. The areas that have retained most of their originating accents sound like bucolic English accents more than they sound like what you probably think of as american.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIZgw09CG9E

Here's what a retained accent in america sounds like. Does that remind you more of america or england?

Well, the Ironborn are pretty retarded. They're in a perfect position to dominate trade between the North, Lannisport and Oldtown, but instead they hold on to their rape and pillage traditions even after they lost the ability to rape and pillage. They prefer sitting on their shitty islands whining about how unfair life is instead of, you know, using their marine traditions to become the Braavos of Westeros.
In the books, Asha points out as much, by saying the war needs to stop being about being allowed to rape and pillage, and start being about getting some Lebensraum in more fertile areas. The Ironborn laugh her out because "we dont sow!!". D&D mess this up too, having Asha's "Let's build an economy" turn into book-Victarion's "Let's continue to waste our men at a pointless and lost Rape & Pillage war!". Then they give Euron Victarion's "let's marry Dany instead of just stealing her dragons" plan for some reason. GRRM probably had that horn for a reason, D&D, maybe you shouldn't cut everything interesting.

>“Who knows more of gods than I? Horse gods and fire gods, gods made of gold with gemstone eyes, gods carved of cedar wood, gods chiseled into mountains, gods of empty air... I know them all. I have seen their peoples garland them with flowers, and shed the blood of goats and bulls and children in their names. And I have heard the prayers, in half a hundred tongues. Cure my withered leg, make the maiden love me, grant me a healthy son. Save me, succor me, make me wealthy... protect me! Protect me from mine enemies, protect me from the darkness, protect me from the crabs inside my belly, from the horselords, from the slavers, from the sellswords at my door. Protect me from the Silence." He laughed. "Godless? Why, Aeron, I am the godliest man ever to raise sail! You serve one god, Damphair, but I have served ten thousand. From Ib to Asshai, when men see my sails, they pray.”

This literally would have been perfect to say at the kingsmoot but instead they wasted like two sentences during his shitty talk with Balon. And why doesn't he have an eye patch? It's seems like a really stupid change that DnD just did because they could.
>>
>>69993712
I dont get why everyones so up in arms about the eyepatch

Theres very little characters in the show that they got correct with easy to fix details.
>>
Why was there even a Kingsmoot? Theon is standing right there. Been touted as "Balons last living heir" since Season 1, and as soon as Balon dies they just forget about it?

In the books Eurons kingship would be illegal if they found out Theon was actually alive.
>>
>>70002403
>And why doesn't he have an eye patch
It's probable that this was something Asbæk requested. Loads of actors refuse to work if their costumes are a bit uncomfortable or inconvenient, or if they feel it "impairs" their "ability".
Just look at how Bloodraven turned from "man who became a tree" to "guy who sat in a chair behind some roots" because Max von Sydow refused any costume that would require more than ten minutes of makeup.
Source: I did the lighting for a domestic TV show once. Literal nobody actors who did nothing but complain and demand.

>Literal nobody actors who did nothing but complain and demand.

Got any cool stories? And if anything this makes me give some props for Nikolaj for wearing his fake hand.
>>
>>70002511
Nah, Theon directly inheriting would be more illegal. Iron Islands "constitution" seems to be that the priests are officially supposed to permit each heir to inherit, and they should only do so after a Kingsmoot. Strong kings with strong heirs are able to bypass this, as they did in real life, but a weak or failed king with a weak heir (which Theon certainly is by now) would probably be pushed away in favour of a council.
Medieval history was far less "first son always inherits the throne" than anyone thinks. Euron (strong and from the appropriate bloodline) coming in to push his claim against Asha (strong, appropriate bloodline, female) makes perfect sense. What doesn't make sense is everybody apparently not realising that Euron showing up the day after his brother-king who banished him dies is somewhat suspicious.

It wouldn't be illegal, but they'd basically be a do-over and they'd have to have the Kingsmoot again since Theon wasn't present the first time, and by law as Balon's son he'd have to be there. I'm 90% sure that's Asha's plan in the books, to find Theon and use him to redo the Kingsmoot, it's her only hope of upsetting Euron's plans.
>>
>>70002511
The Kings of the Iron Islands have historically been chosen by a Kingsmoot. Direct inheritance is a recent development which the Priests of the Drowned God resent and wish to reverse. Balon and the Greyjoy line had never been kings, only lords. When Balon died, the ironborn needed a new king for the first time in centuries, and Aeron, a very influential Drowned Priest, took the opportunity to reinstate their holy Kingsmoot.

The only person who really failed to benefit from that would be Theon, but Theon has no friends on the Isles and doesn't want to be king anyway. Anyone else who wants a claim should be supporting the Kingsmoot because they need it to seize the Driftwood Crown.

It doesn't make sense in the show because he was already at Pyke and shoved Balon off a bridge. But apparently nobody saw his (literally world-famous and instantly recognizable) longship in the harbor, nor did any guards or servants see him walk all the way up to that bridge. Just another case of empty castles in this show.

In the books Balon fell off the bridge mysteriously in a storm and Euron actually didn't arrive until after that fact, but it's heavily implied he had something to do with it due to all the sorcery shit associated with him (like having warlocks in his crew). Of course they were suspicious of him in the books but they had no way to prove anything: he hadn't even been at Pyke when Balon died, and not only that they couldn't even hold his banishment against him because by the time he arrived the man who banished him was dead and his word no longer law.

Kinslaying all over the place this season, apparently D&D think breaking the same taboo 3 times counts as shock value when all it does is diminish its power when there's zero consequences for it. In the books characters went a long way to avoid the stain of kinslaying, and Tyrion was a complete wreck for a large part of book 5 for having murdered his own father.

>Got any cool stories?
I'm afraid I don't really have any one incident that would make a spectacular story. It was a constant barrage of small things and blaming people for something someone else was obviously responsible for, constant demands to change things I had no authority over, not ever listening to anyone, and at one point trying to get me fired for politely asking them if they'd mind moving their stuff a few meters to the side.
Not all of them were like that, of course. The male lead and most of the recurring guys were perfectly nice people, but the female lead and one of the recurring guys were absolute horrors. If anything happened, or even if nothing happened, they'd be calling everyone idiots and do their best to ruin our days. At one point the lead actress demanded the company pay to bring in a private chef for her because the rest of us eating sandwiches with salami that we'd brought ourselves was offending her vegan sensibilities. She practically bit the head off her assistant (she had one, somehow) because he was unable to telepathically know when she wanted a cappuccino. You'd expect this kind of shit from J-Lo, but this was a forty-five year old woman who had been "in acting" for thirty years and held a job in it for about two of those years.
We were filthy peasant stagehands who had been there since four in the morning setting everything up, while they were masterrace actors whose coffee was a minute late.

The ironborn haven't had kings since they were conquered by the Targaryens. Balon was the first ironborn to declare himself king in a long time. The kingsmoot is a very old tradition in the Iron Islands and is closely tied to their religious practices, which is why it was suggested by Aeron Damphair. Hence his constant bitching about "NO GODLESS MAN MAY SIT THE SEASTONE CHAIR" (salt throne? fuck off D&D).
>>
>>70003507
No. They were pushing for Victarion to inherit, Theon was a stranger in the Islands and the Ironmen would have sooner chosen Asha over him.
>>
>>70003507
Damphair wouldn't want a eunuch to inherit.
The real question is why everyone seems to know Theon has been castrated. In the books that knowledge seems restricted to Asha, Balon, Roose and Ramsay, and for good reason. If word got out, the Boltons wouldn't be able to use him as a puppet Iron King, and the Greyjoy family would be humiliated by the last son of Balon being castrated by the enemy. Theon himself would certainly try and keep it a secret as well, he'd be well aware any political clout he might have as the lawful heir would go away the moment word got out that he can't father an heir.
>>
>>70003507
Nobody gave a shit about Theon. Victarion was Aeron's favorite to inherit. He's family, he's pious, and he's ruthlessly strong. Most importantly he fucking hates Euron.

The only person in the Iron Islands who gave a single salty fuck about Theon's "rights" was Asha, because they were a loophole she could exploit to undo Euron's coronation.
>>
Legitimacy rules of the Ironborn don't make any sense. In S2 Theon was looked upon and mocked by even mere sailors for his lack of experience as a sea raider.

But now, all of the sudden, they come up with "hurr hurr there's Balon's last son". Why should they give a shit, honestly? I thought they stuck to meritocracy, so they shouldn't have cared about this whiny, dickless bitchface whose only accomplishment was getting captured.
>>

>>
>>70003625
In s2 they were still following the books fairly close, and in the books the Ironborn thought of Theon as a soft, spoiled cunt. But by season 6 they've completely divorced from the books and need Theon to be important now that they've got him away from Ramsay, so they completely change the character of the Ironborn.
>>
>>70003519
It was a good change. I was just so out of it because they didn't look alike at all.
>>
>>70003652
They didn't give a fuck about him when he was alive. Balon himself barely gave a shit about him when he arrived back at Pyke. He was given a menial task in the war to keep him out of the way since nobody trusted him or wanted to sail with him. That's why he went full retard and took Winterfell, because he desperately wanted to be taken seriously and be acknowledged.

But even that only earned him scorn. Also no, under the laws the Kingsmoot that Aeron dug up Theon doesn't have "rights" to the throne at all, he merely as the lesser right of presenting his claim at the moot. As the son of the previous king he has to be present for the kingsmoot for it to be legitimate.
>>
>>70003652
>Would it be Damphair's decision
The Ironborn have a tradition called Kingsmoot. It basically declares that, after a king dies, all captains are allowed to cast their votes for who the next king should be. Kind of like how, in medieval Europe, councils of noblemen would frequently decide the next king.
The Kingsmoot is a tradition that comes from the Drowned God religion, of which Damphair is apparently some kind of pope. So yes, Damphair would have a say. He wouldn't have the decision, not unanimously, but it seems reasonable to expect his opinion to hold a lot of influence over the more religious captains at the moot. Damphair's favoured candidate is Victation, and his absolutely least favoured candidate is Euron, who seems to have raped him when they were children. Damphair would support Theon over Euron, but probably not over Victarion, because Victarion is everything his religion says a man should be. Strong, loud, rapacious and an expert pillager, with absolutely no intent whatsoever of, you know, sowing the seeds for a sustainable society.
>>
>>70003753

>He's also supposed to have blue hair and a glorious moustache, but I guess we can't expect everything.
Moustaches look incredibly silly IRL. only in the realm of books they are passable. Dothrakis, according to the books, are supposed to wear ridiculous mustachios too. But come on, it's just plainly silly and would appear as a dumb Mongol parody.
>>
>>70003813
The monarchy had been dead for centuries. The priests had the opportunity to bring the Kingsmoot back, just like Balon brought the monarchy back, and they took it.
>>
>>70003813
I understand it just fine. The kingsmoot only happened because Damphair wanted it to happen, he was running things. The fact that on his assertion alone they decided to hold a kingsmoot shows how much sway he has among the Ironborn. It was Damphair's insistence that they choose the next king via Kingsmoot because he figured it would be a lock to get his brother Vicky chosen, or at the very least a candidate he could approve of.
>>
>>70003753
>That's why he went full retard and took Winterfell, because he desperately wanted to be taken seriously and be acknowledged.
>But even that only earned him scorn
Well, not entirely true. Taking Winterfell was a genius move. But what he should have done then is taken the captive Starks back to Pyke and sacked the castle. Asha explains as much to him. He could have gone home as the hero who used a clever gambit to capture VIPs and sacked the enemy HQ, but instead he tried to hold onto one of the largest castles in Westeros with a dozen demoralised men without any supply lines or reinforcements.
If only he'd gone home right away he would have earned loads of respect, but he was too dumb to realise that.
>>70003813
The Kingsmoot was out of practice because the Hoare's disbanded it, which the Ironborn hated, and after that because there was no Iron King, just Targaryens. The Kingsmoot is a requirement from the Drowned God religion, which is very strong in the Iron Islands. Reviving it is a pretty obvious thing, now that they have a new Iron King.

You know, the more and more I read the books the more I come to conclusion that D&D did a really pretty good job at adopting characters to the screen (in the earlier seasons, of course).

I got to the chapter of Dany's wedding and I almost broke out in laughter. Up to this point it was consistently stated she was terrified by her fate and Khal Drogo. And when she cried while being fucked in the show, it was believable.

But how GRRM made it in the book is more akin to Tarzan and Jane's story aka 'a beauty and a handsome savage'.

But in this case there's no way he can convince Sansa he had nothing to do with it, so he has to play contrite. He can't do that, because he can't understand himself doing anything wrong, the entire world is just other people doing wrongs against him. Just look at how he repressed his duel for Cat's heart and the latter outcome with Lysa. Lysa had sex with him, but because he can't understand that the love of his life didn't approve of his duel, he warps the outcome in his mind into being Cat expressing remorse for supporting the wrong duelist. this is true,
Old English (OE) had an open back vowel /ɑ/, written ⟨a⟩, as well as a front vowel /æ/, written ⟨æ⟩. These had corresponding long vowels /ɑː/ and /æː/ but were not normally distinguished from the short vowels in spelling although modern editions of Old English texts often mark them as ⟨ā⟩ and ⟨ǣ⟩. In the low vowel area, there was also a pair of short and long diphthongs, /æɑ/ and /æːɑ/, written ⟨ea⟩ (the long one also ⟨ēa⟩ in modern editions)

When Europe discovered the New World, the colonists kept the /æ/ sound, while the British removed it.

Borgen sucks, and we've seen the same shit since Det Forsomte Forår. Lektor Blomme gets killed yet again, and again, and again.

Danish television and movies are so fucking boring.

I wonder how many kings-to-be have just drowned? Who the fuck wants that job anyways? And why would anyone want to live in that miserable hell hole?

I don't see why they couldn't recast him, they've recast others. They could put it down to him having learned from the faceless men in his travels or some shit like that.

In the books the normal "drowning" is just a full-body baptism, aka you stand on a beach with a priest, he reads some stuff at you, dips your head in, and you're done. Only the priests have a literal drowning like Euron got, and after they're pulled out of the water the other priests use CPR to bring them back to life. Damphair is so notable because he has never failed to bring anyone back with CPR, where most priests lose many of their acolytes to drowning.
