My grandparents did. The cable companies didn't run up our mountains at all, and DSS was still years away.

I used to love visiting them, because them I could watch the Disney Channel.

Yah, my parents immigrated from the North Africa and my dad bought a dish that was able to receive signals from certain satellites so we could watch Arabic TV.

Hell yeah. I used to love watching blocks of cartoons after school (feeds that affiliates would record for those syndicated shows).

That and the random free PPV are my fondest memories of C-Band Satellite in the late 80's/early 90's. No idea what it's like today...

Yes. My grandpa had a HUGE one. No really like the size of a house, I have no fucking clue how the city let us have it in such a small neighborhood in the city. It was almost 60feet in the air and like I said bigger than the garage. I use to look at it and wonder if it was a movie prop, but no it was a satellite dish.

My grandpa spent like 10,000$ on someone taking it down eventually. Wish I could had taken a picture of it but it was taken down like in 2002 when I was still a teen.

Yup. It was the only way to get "cable" channels in the deep boonies. There were raw feeds from everything imaginable. I remember watching creepy local access shit from all over the country. NASA shit way before they ever even had a cable channel...so much porn...those were the days man.
