I don't get it. Everybody is complaining about these guys origins.

I'm sincerely curious, can any of you guys come up with something better?

>DUDE KILLING MACHINES LMAO
yea, there are no alternatives
>>
>>69902529
Yes

If you want pure evil, society destroying, baby eating, woman raping, ice cold hearted villians, just make them from Syria.

They don't even have to really be, just say they are from there.

GRRM is bullshitting D&D but is smart enough to know how to protect himself from lawsuits. To do that he has to make it seem believable that he actually just changed his mind. Everything fits.

"The Night's King" in the book was seduced by a a female other. The show bothered to name their white walker Night King yet made him the first.

One is a former night's watchman turned vassal of the great Other and the other is some stark turned into a robot army.

WW come down periodically to restore balance to the world. This is the song of ice and fire: the fire is the destruction wraught by humans and the ice is the WW coming to cleanse it and restore balance.

There you go, better than what those hacks D&D wrote.

I thought he supposedly was transformed by women an evil female white walker

Was that too misogynist for 2016

After the fall of the Lich King the Burning Legion opened a portal from the twisted nether into the realm of westeros. One death knight general and hundreds of undead scourge poured through the portal. Thus merging the WC universe and GOT universe for lots of greedy jewish $$$$

>According to legend, Night's King lived during the Age of Heroes, not long after the Wall was complete. He was a fearless warrior named the thirteenth Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Later, he fell in love with a woman "with skin as white as the moon and eyes like blue stars". He chased her and loved her though "her skin was cold as ice", and when he gave his seed to her he gave his soul as well. Night's King brought her back to the Nightfort and after the unholy union, he declared himself king and her his queen, and ruled the Nightfort as his own castle for thirteen years.[1]

>During the dark years of his reign, horrific atrocities were committed, of which tales are still told in the north. It was not until Brandon the Breaker, the King of Winter, and Joramun, the King-Beyond-the-Wall, joined forces that Night's King was brought down and the Night's Watch freed.[2] After his fall, when it was discovered that Night's King had been making sacrifices to the Others, all records of him were destroyed and his very name was forbidden and forgotten.[1] It is likely this led the lords of the north to forbid the Night's Watch to construct walls at their keeps, ensuring the keeps would always be accessible from the south.

>Maesters are skeptical of the legend, thinking Night's King's corpse queen was possibly a daughter of a Barrow King from the barrowlands.[2] Some fan theories link her with the Others because of her description.

Pretty sure D&D may have just stolen the name because it sounded cool

People are so obsessed with origin. It really didn't matter much. The story works for me.

In a desperate situation they come up with something to try to survive and can't control it and it takes on a life and motivation of its own.

I am much more interested in knowing what their ultimate motivation is more than their origin.

The idea is that they're this almost alien race with a completely different way of existing and understanding.

It's not so much that they're immoral or malicious, they just have a reasoning that's completely incomprehensible and incompatible with human life.

That's the interpretation I liked best, that they're beyond our complete grasp almost as though they're a form of extra-dimensional entity.

I would've preferred the explanation (if they really needed to have one) that they were born when the world was young, or came through a gateway to another realm entirely, one of perpetual night and frozen darkness.

Something more otherworldly than what we got.

Nope. And it's debatable if the girl he took as queen was.

But that was the book. In the tv show, he's basically Bin Laden: created/funded by the USA to fight against the Russians, then turned his back on the yanks and attacked them

Don't force yourself to share the negative "/tv/" opinion if you actually liked it. Don't be afraid to like something just cause some anonymous neckbeard will call you a pleb for it.

Kill humans, obviously. They were created by the Children of th Forest to do their fighting for them because they're little and weak.

>>69904343
Why didn't they transform one of them why trust a human would do their bidding

i'll give it a shot

>The "Great Other" is really the female white walker that turned The Night's King (a stark) into the first white walker. The Others' origins are essentially true to Old Nan's tale.
>The Great Other is some sort of sexy primordial deity that actually roams the earth for a brief window during the longest night of winter or some shit. The Red God does the same at the peak of summer.
>They're both just forces of nature forever in opposition and neither is inherently good or evil.
>Nights King is in charge when White Pussy isn't around (which is 99% of the time).
>Nights King is heading south with an army for one reason: to bring Jon--who's actually his direct descendant--back to the land of always winter in time for when the Great Other returns. He doesn't give a fuck about taking over any further south than that like we've been assuming.
>Jon is a big fucking deal to the Others because there's always a champion of the Great Other (A stark) and a champion of the Red God (a Targaryan) to oppose him. Every Long Night (a super-winter that happens only every thousand years or whatever) only ends on Planetos because every super-winter there's an Azor Ahai figure that emerges to slay the Champion of the Great Other.
>But this time for the first time in history those two champions are one in the same in Jon (maybe actually two in the same because of R+L=J AND Dany), and finally this eternal conflict can be put to rest somehow by white walker-ing Jon, or simply by sacrificing him to the Great Other. Jon dies, winter wins.
>Maybe explain that these ancient allegiances exist because the early Starks pledged their bloodline to be champions of the Great Other in exchange for super warging powers, and the Targaryans to the Red God for the power to control dragons.

Who said they're pure evil? They were created for a fucked up purpose, but who's to say they remained that way?

It's pretty clear to me that they rebelled against their creators and perhaps they only mean for their people to grow and prosper, and the only way to do that is to convert people to white walkers like with that baby.

i understood that reference, but that's literally what happens

>Finally, the children of the forest have nothing to do with the conflict going on between the two forces of nature. They're just an outdated species that has withdrawn into some trees. They're more anti-red god than Great Other, because their trees will likely survive a world of eternal winter but not a world where mankind continues to grow and cut down the weirwoods
>They're really only relevant to the story because the 3-eyed raven has jacked their tree network and is using it to advance the causes of the great Other. It turns out he's a huge bitter asshole that hates the red god/living things in general, but is actually kind of justified because it turns out the Red God is also an asshole that feeds on eternal suffering of mankind rather than the silent "nothingness" of The Great Other's eternal cold dead winter
>"Nothing's not better or worse than anything. It's just nothing"- or whatever Arya said. Turns out this was foreshadowing because the faceless men are also all servants of The Great Other
