Because the story is completely destroyed by the eagles thing. There's no getting around it.

If you have any kind of rational thoughts in your head, that makes the movies unenjoyable
>>
>>69847496
Edits like that are usually for films that are already good. Like the original start wars trilogy edits that cut George's garbage stuff and corrected colors, audio, etc while keeping in the right stuff. Imagine the original New Hope but with all the quality additions from the special edition.

You cant do with The Hobbit.

The combat was disappointing with the shaky camera. It's mostly just pretty scenery with dramatic fantasy music, the best part was the mines of Moria.

Does the extended edition of the last hobbit movie have an actual resolution? I distinctly remember that in the cinema version only Bilbo got an ending, while it's never resolved what happens to the Erebor, or Dale, Thorin is never buried, Dain never crowned, etc.

That was my biggest disappointment. It was an action movie with no plot whatsoever yet they still didn't get the endings right. Lotr had a 30 minute ending that made you cry over and over again
>>
>>69847023
Contrary to you OP, I already was an adult when I first saw this. That's why I can say objectively, without nostalgia clouding my judgment, that this is a really average movie.
Nothing god tier about it at all.
Just average, maybe even below average.
I'd say a 4.5/10 movie.

Nah not really. Eowyn later realizes her place and becomes a loyal housewife and healer.

Her short career as a soldier is just a phase brought on by her depression after being rejected by Aragorn. So she seeks a "glorious death" in battle.

> "I stand in Minas Anor, the Tower of the Sun; and behold! the Shadow has departed! I will be a Shieldmaiden no longer, nor vie with the great Riders, nor take joy only in the songs of slaying. I will be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren."

>b-but eagles bro! Epic plot hole xD

Idk why everyone bitches about this because the answer was simple

The Eagles would have stolen the ring, the ring corrupts almost all sentient things

Even Gandalf couldn't carry the ring

The reason Hobbits can carry the ring is because Hobbits are really simple and humble. Even then Frodo couldn't even destroy the ring, it basically got destroyed by accident.

when I think of Lord of the Rings and how great they are, I'm reminded of how sub par Harry Potter was

Peter Jackson set up the ring to be a very evil and very powerful artifact. You heard how heavy its weight was when it fell from Bilbo's hand, how still it was. You could see how its weight scraped against Frodo's neck. How it prevent itself from melting immediately when the lava solidified in mount doom. It was all these little set ups and it was convincing.

In Harry Potter, I never got the sense that Harry could ever beat Voldemort, he was just so ordinary and he was able to beat the big bad. He was such a mediocre student who only knew a few spells.

>>69850742
To be fair, I'm a massive HP fan and loved the books. The movies fucked it all up. ESPECIALLY the last one. The last book was incredible and both parts of Deathly Hallows got ruined so that they were more marketable

Jackson didnt give a fuck about being too complex, he actually embraced it. He knew that 3 1/2 hour epic films were how fantasy is meant to be done. Last Harry Potter film had the source material for a Return of the King length film, but it instead was the shortest of the series with every single meaningful, emotional, epic, unexpected and memorable scene cut or shortened to keep the pace up. Lord of the Rings knew when to slow down and establish a setting or character. Harry Potter shot itself in the foot for the box office.

The final HP book also has a giant scene where Harry has the final confrontation against Voldemort in the Great Hall in front of both armies, and they talk for a while. During it Harry explains that he's about to kill Voldemort, and how he made it possible. It has perfect dialog. In the film, it's Voldemort chasing Harry around the battlements and slapping him around while Harry briefly says a tiny fragment of what he really says in the book. Most movie-only people had no clue why Voldemort died. In the book it's just wonderfully done.

Only people who dislike LOTR because they have enough decency not to open shit all over the objective masterpiece in my experience are people who usually hate or don't understand the concepts of national identity, struggle and comradship and things greater than them. LOTR is all about ideas, not pushing any agendas and serving any interests, its just a timeless story, but leftist still find it extremely upsetting and will argue that this or that type of charater wasn't well represented or how one dimensional something is, even though they're missing the point of this story and probably life I suppose.

Of all the Harry Potter movies, I felt that the third film did the most justice
I remember seeing Ron's hand placed against the glass in the train and it began to freeze and then how they were all able to see their breath when the dementor came. I love these set ups. I didn't have that stark impression when I read it so when I saw it, I thought it was fantastic because it showed just how life draining the dementors were

TTT and ROTK have a lot of extra backstory and im fairly sure the entire borimir/farimir subplot is all extended edition only and thats a reasonably significant part of the story.

also an extra death scene or 2 and some of the battles go for a bit longer
>>
Is that 247 minute Hobbit recut actually good?
>>
>>69850916
that was the part where I'm unconvinced, and people have honestly told me that love was what saved him
but I'm also sure that in Voldemort's war, there were thousands of innocent lives that were taken and I'm sure someone would have protected their loved ones and the "protective love" spell would have occurred often
Harry can't be the only person with this kind of special protection
>>
>>69850742
They could have been upfront more about how a piece of Harry was a Voldemort Horcrux, it could have made him sicker and sicker, see visions and go a bit insane. It would have reminded you how much of a burden he felt for being The One prophesied to beat Voldemort.

Instead they just made him look like a normal British boy the entire time and more like he just lucked into an answer at the right time.

I mean, the obvious answer is that it was just something Rowling came up with way later down the line. She probably just wanted to make it seem like it was something she planned all along, probably also why she made the Invisibility Cloak one of the Deathly Hallows. The entire explanation for how Harry owned the Elder Wand also made little sense.

>>
>>69851306
Yes!! that is why I want a remake (it's silly, I know). They needed to show those instances. Hell, Harry being a horcrux may have been the reason why the Dursley's hate him so much. Harry couldn't even hold the locket for too long without feeling its evil presence and the Dursley's had to endure it for 11 years with Harry.

Another part that they could have showcased was that the Horcrux was simply protecting its container (Harry) and was imbuing Harry with power to protect itself against Voldemort. At least this could be used as a way for Harry to become more powerful as the series progressed.

I have a lot of feelings for Harry Potter

I know this is a LotR thread, but fuck it. Fantasy general.
In the book, there's a huge build-up and Voldemort doesn't just go poof. He dies the old fashioned way and they put him away in a broom cupboard during the celebration. The celebration is an enormous, Return of the King tier event where everybody goes crazy, they talk about how people are sending word all over the world that it's over. The book does it so damn well.

It's a bit of a read, but pic related is the climax of the book.

We could have had this in the film. We could have had something good. The celebration that over a decade of books and films built up to, a true sense of accomplishment and finality. Instead, the battle happens with no dialog and lasts about 25 seconds. The "celebration" is a quiet, small affair of people sitting back and sipping coffee for a less than a minute of screentime.

the entire explanation about wand allegiance in general made little sense

I know that Dumbledore is the most powerful wizard and yet somehow, a wand switches allegiance as long as you use expelliarmus at the right time. Draco is in no way more powerful than Dumbledore, so the idea that the elder wand was Draco's for a time is bonkers, just bonkers

Yeah, compared to the movie scene, it felt more like a thud than a bang. The book just had more stakes, and that the stakes didn't just rest within the confines of the school but with the entire world.
A lot of the scenes in the final film felt like a thud. The scene with Bellatrix and Molly was too short. I recall reading that the director wanted to make the film's fight focused on Harry and Voldemort and didn't want to delve too much into other non harry fights. The scene was too anticlimactic. I remember in the book people were pushed away by the force of Molly and Bellatrix fighting and countering spells. That would have been the scene I'd prefer, but nope, I can't have nice things

Mortensen broke his toe kicking an Orc helmet on camera, Bloom fell off his horse and broke a rib, and Rhys-Davies' scale double Brett Beattie dislocated his knee. They spent two days injured during the "orc hunting" sequence seen in the second film. Soon after, they spent a month of day shoots at Helm's Deep and another three months of night shoots handled by Mahaffie, in Dry Creek Quarry outside of Wellington, during which Mortensen's tooth was knocked out and Bernard Hill was hit on the ear with the flat of a sword. The extras insulted each other in Māori and improvised stunts, partially because those dressed in Uruk-hai prosthetics got extremely cold.
