They have to step up their game after Hail Caesar
>>
they peaked with Miller's Crossing. The only great movie they've made since is Inside Llewyn Davis

I hate that i dont like their work.

It seems like im missing something cause most people really love their films but i seriously cant stand it.
>>
I love the Coen brothers but Hail Caesar! was a piece of shit.
>>
Among them, certainly, but Kiarostami and Malick are still working.
>>
Hail Caesar was fine. Funny, very good, astute parody of that era of Hollywood. Somehow lost on memellenials.
>>
>>69826804
I bet you enjoy the films of Wes Anderson

One of the best auteurs working today. He keeps changing his style - both narratively in what stories he chooses and technically - going from his own Altmanesque style of showy camera movements, then to a restrained Kubrick.

Not bad, but definitely not good. And comes nowhere close to his previous films.
>>
Coen Bros are so fucking good they made the Wachowski Bros turn into the Wachowski Sisters because they knew they could not compete with the Coen Bros, forcing them to move to the sisters making movies together as opposed to the brothers making movies gimmick.

One of the most important theme throughout their career is characters trying to understand the absurd world that they live in. Every script is meticulously writen. They use melancholy music to contrast the absurd world and dark plots that are happening on screen. Another way that CB use soundtrack in each of their films is to design soundscapes to give the feeling of emptiness. The final way is use lyrics to comment on theme of the film. Over the course of their career there has been certain writing choices that have become quite common in their films. One of these is to present all character as having flaws, another is to use a lot of film noir elements in film plots, use of dream sequences ect. They like to experiment with genre as well, so for example in film noirs of the 40s the most remembered thing is use of dark imagery and shadow, and in a film like Fargo all of shadows are replaced by white snow. Or in a film like MC instead of getting gangster who rises to the top and wants more and eventually leads to his own dawnfall, what we have is a character who doesn't push he just listens and watches. And in the end we can look at the way that CB break the conventional screenwriting rules. In tipical script audience is expect to see that people who do good things are rewarded in the end, and people who do bad things will be punished. But in BAR all these rules are broken. All the character who preforme selfish and bad acts get away cleanly and all the good character end up dying. In terms of ILD we have another example of screenplay writing being turn on its head. In 2005 B.S. wrote the book about screenwriting called "Save The Cat" and the whole point of the title is that you're supposed to show the character early on in the film saving a cat so that way through out the film the audience will side with them, but in ILD, Davis constantly trys to save the cat and constantly fails.
