All of those stores were arrogant as fuck—Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Borders, Sam Goody, and the whole host of kitschy stores for mall rats like Spencer's. Usually, the manager was some English major who literally couldn't find a better job and made the store/employees their own elite club of educated idiots.
I'm actually glad just about every single one of these companies folded.

Our last video store was run by an older gent and his wife. Unfortunately he passed away suddenly and his wife couldn't do it alone so they closed the place down. His assclown kids didn't want anything to do with the store so they sold everything off and its now a tobacco/bong store.
I remember being in college at the time and there being a local rental store near my dorm.
So I went to sign up, but the only credit card I had at the time was Mastercard which they didn't accept.
I told the guy I really wanted to rent there instead of Blockbuster but there was nothing he could do.
They closed like 6 months later while blockbuster lasted, like a cancer, for another five or six years.
