Pretty much, they are showing their true colors, especially the film reviewers posted here

London Has Fallen, Neon Demon, they don't bask of diversity and progressiveness so the liberals and leftists pounce on it to deride it and name-drop Donald Trump somewhere in the review no matter how out of place it is because he's their boogeyman.

Okay but the problem is all those reviewers can't help but review it with a political narrative in mind, that being of leftism and progressiveness so this movie might as well be a "Nuremberg Nazy rally to them"

lol not even close

i couldn't give less of a fuck about muhsogny or perceived racism in films

i do draw the line at a film that's intended to entertain but stars what is essentially a psychotic, paranoid xenophobe who takes pleasure from torturing people
>>
It's honestly disgusting, for a variety of reasons.

A film reviewer's primary goal should be to analyze and evaluate the content of the movie, that is to say the narrative, plot, and story, along with characters and pacing, while also looking at the form, which would be the style and aesthetic of the film, from the color pallete to the choice in music, to a number of other factors that define the visual and auditory elements of the film.

Instead, for some reason that I won't go into, a large majority of reviewers hosted on these aggregate websites seem to only focus on the topical political message, whether there is one within the film, or whether they invent one that ISN'T in the film. So instead of understanding and appreciating the form and content that make the movie what it is, all the reader is left with is the reviewer's view of their bias in regards to an imagined political message.

One of the most heartbreaking parts is that these so-called "reviewers" have no formal, and barely an informal, education on the subject of movies, so all they can talk about is their FotM political motivations.

What makes this all so dangerous is that these uneducated people have influence, at least when their reviews fly under the banner of RT. A movie reviewers should be able to write a number of essays on a variety of subjects regarding their favorite films, but reading some of the selections from these assorted names, I'm honestly surprised they can shit out these tone-deaf bylines.
>>
We need to bring back the rotten tomatoes comment section.

Well said, its the same with videogame reviews these days too. A cursory glance into the mechanics and story of a game and then the paragraph long explanation for why its problematic for not including non-white characters or whatever other bullshit.

I'm sick of it, all media seems to be infested with this mindset.

Ok, let's try some role reversal here. Let's say there was an Abraham Lincoln biopic starring Idris Elba. Would you think that was kind of dumb? Would it be out of line for a reviewer to say that was dumb?
>>
>>69792404
The biggest problem with RT is that assigning a percentage and score to a film is purely a "review" metric, however most of the people the site aggregates don't review films, but instead try to do critiques. The worst part is that most of these "critics" lack the knowledge and ability to actually critique films, so instead they just focus on their extremely limited political hot-topics and shoehorn them on every film that challenges (intentionally or not) their fragile identities.

Everything is racist.

Everything is transphobic.

As cultural leaders it is our job to Call It Out when we see it.

The majority of film reviewers (and this is true going back into the 70's) are not knowledgeable about film. They are writers and cultural critics offering opinions on films and often at best movie fans or people knowledgeable about film history (rather than production and craft).

Actual critical analysis of film like this current youtubers work

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q4X2vDRfRk

Is dry and boring to most people.

They want to find someone with similar tastes to their own so they can use their opinion to gauge whether to pay to see a movie or not.

Now they often just want someone to agree with their tastes and form extended fan groups.

That's just how it's always been.

The political messaging is simply people using a platform that gets views to share their personal political beliefs and in the scummier corners of the internet to draw attention and gain ad revenue.

I wish Trump would stop being used as a buzzword like that. Just to dismiss any person. I hate Trump, but the "he's racist/misogynist/homophobic/totally just like Hitler" rhetoric (that none of these people can back up with actions that point to any of that) combined with the extreme hatefulness that comes out of Bernie supporter rallies (rallies that the cops have had to break up they were so disruptive) makes me almost want to drop my Libertarian Party vote and vote Trump.

The left in America legit scares me. These people are terrifying. Even the bloodthirsty neocons aren't half as terrifying. I'd rather listen to insane Glenn Beck rants than a liberal talk about bathrooms or privilege.

I'm a libertarian, but Trump raises some points that are too important for me to ignore. He also wants to leave a good amount of issues to the states, which you'd never see on the left.

Honesty, as I've realized everything I like in life at some point gets called out as Fascist by the 'left' at some point, it's only made the romantic in me say "fuck it" and actually become kind of a new form of fascist.

Which is complicated because I'm pro-environment, sympathetic of ordinary people (while also thinking there is always a necessary role in the elite), believe in certain eternal values but don't think people can perfectly attain them, dislike neoliberal globalist capitalism but aren't exactly socialistic or purely capitalistic (but have elements of both), believe ethnicities and the local should be preserved, believe men and woman are complementary equal but fundamentally different and one must lead (men), believe prejudice to be a fact of life but don't exactly like it, love innovation but also tradition, and think culture, ecology, and aesthetics should be the priorities instead of profit, but also don't think equality or utopia is possible or desirable.

But aesthetics are hugely important to me and I despise people who taint art by trying to push their ugly, stupid political agendas on it.

You find this kind of criticism still in academia and in specialized magazines like S&S. Although academia is slowly being overtaken by cultural critics who'd rather talk about racist undercurrents than film form.

The mainstream press is a different story, though. Some outlets have the entertainment reporters masquerading as film critics. But I think traditionally newspaper film critics have been often journalists reassigned to film writing. That's what happened to people like Ebert. I think Rosenbaum was much more interested in jazz and literature when he was younger too. But even those kind of old film critics bathed in cinema and actually learned what they needed to know.

Nowadays you just have hacks who treat it the same as if they were writing about current affairs or books.

There's nothing inherently terrible about Fascism as properly understood. At least nothing worse than socialism. Aesthetics are a huge part of Fascism too, tradition, and corporatism, militarism (which less face it, is already a trait of most western democracies).

Nazism isn't fascism and that's the biggest mistake people make. Fascism is not anti-semitic. It's authoritarian, yes. But I'd argue that socialism is not just authoritarian, but totalitarian. I'd rather live in an authoritarian Fascist state like Italy than a totalitarian Socalist state like the USSR.

Fascism is understood by very few people these days. It's a buzzword. Any time you see someone talk about Fascism and 70% of their examples or allusions are to Nazism, you know it's bullshit.

It's worth pointing out that the kind of "egyptians" that these people would be happy with are black Africans. Actual Egyptians wouldn't satisfy them.

Popular critics rarely seem to grasp that horror movies are supposed to be about bad things happening to people.

Why do you made such an idiotic post?

You know that there barely any conservative critics. You know no one who really does that take them seriously. Go ahead, find them. Go on Rotten Tomato and try to find any of these heavily biased conservative critics on there, and in numbers enough to influence a score.

Now do the same for leftist ones. Hell, you don't even need to look for fringe far left ones since even progressive language manages to bleed into even mainstream reviews. And yes, when you bring out Donald Trump out of nowhere to bash a film, your bias deserves to be shit on.

And no, posts on /tv/ are not the same as "professional" reviewers that are considered for an RT score.

They might as well be by now, RT is a joke.
