What is the greatest show of the 21st Century and why is it The Shield?
i was just about to make a thread.
in the middle of a rewatch and nearing the end of season 7. holy fucking shit i forgot how intense it gets.
its criminal how underrated this show is. if you are the type of person obsessed with the wire, sopranos, and breaking bad you need to see the shield.

the shield gets overlooked because it doesn't try to dress itself up as art:
it lacks all of the pretentiousness found in the sopranos, the wire, ...
its full of absurdly snappy one liners
almost every episode dedicates some time to a story of the week plot
but you get characters with real motivation and fear, and with your attachment to them you get some of the most gut-wrenching moments in any drama.

Its definitely great, I believe its one of the better shows that deals with intensity and "cliff hangers" and action.

The cliffhangers were great because of the nonchalant way the show played them. In that one episode where Tavon gets rekt, then it's back in the barn with Vic and the boys, they all laugh and it cuts to credits, you hear Vic saying "Too bad Shane and Tavon missed this!" fucking beautiful

Probably my favorite character on the show. Claudette is the perfect foil for him, and their relationship is an amazing example of a purely non-sexual male/female partnership.

To some extent yes, but I think it mostly gets overlooked because it started airing before super mainstream internet and because it's a cop drama.
Breaking bad copies a lot of shield aspects (and many of them it handles worse) but it took off because of the right timing and because it's a straight up story about criminals and people love criminals.

me and my gf absolutely love the sopranos because its absolutely GOAT, nothing ever come close to it (probably because it was our first binge watch series and the fact that its pretty much art) but is the sheild really that good ?
i am more than willing to give it a try by the way you described it BUT i always kind of got a sons of anarchy meets NCIS vibe from it (i'm implying it looks shit from the few seconds i've seen advertised here and there) am i majorly wrong ?
The sons of anarchy is awful and I hate CSI shows. The shield is much better than that
