Because people want to see more ghost busting, but Ramis is dead, Aykroyd is retired, and Murray refused to do it unless they were both involved.
Aykroyd already had a sequel written. None of the original cast wanted to do it, he wrote the movie in the early 90's specifically to star Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and David Spade. But when Farley died it got shelved.

I wouldn't make a reboot and I can't really think of any actors that could fill their roles since I hate the majority of actors these days.
They would have to be mostly a group of literally whos with maybe one or two headliners much like the original.
I'd be open to JB playing, provided his character wasn't made for fat jokes and he gets to play guitar.

What a warped perception of history you have. Murray had already done SNL, SCTV, Meatballs, and Caddyshack. Aykroyd had done Blues Brothers, Trading Places. Ramis had done SCTV, Stripes, written/directed CaddyShack, and written Animal House. They were just about the most famous comedy people in the industry at that point besides Chevy Chase and Eddie Murphy.

Before Ramis died I remember they were able to get everyone on board except for Rick Moranis, retired from acting, and Bill Murray, because he didn't want to do it unless he dies immediately in the film and gets to be a ghost. It fell through due to lack of funding due to Muray.
