Did they shoot the action sequences in this movie at some weird frame rate? Why did all the action look like stop motion? It wasn't even that the camera seemed shaky, it looked like there were frames missing. It looked like laggy video game. I saw it on an almost IMAX sized screen and felt physically sick.
>>
Agreed. The action was too fast for the framerate, felt like watching a shitty video game.
>>
How did this movie get so highly rated? It was shit on the camrip.
>>
>>69161535
It didn't help that the editing was terrible.
The chase through the tunnel is laughable.
>>
>>69161597
What sucks most is from what I could make out, the action looked pretty cool. It was just ruined by the schizophrenic cinematography.
>>
I liked the airport fight a lot but yeah, the movie was pretty meh and really annoying to see in 3D.
>>

BvS' choreography was leagues above civil war's a majority of the time, the only parts where civil war was on par with the entirety of bVS was when black panther first appeared and tony vs cap and tWS

It's probably the awful editing, I noticed a number of fights where the camera cuts away to showing the reaction an impact, but not showing any contact. The way the action was shown is inferior Winter Soldier's. At least you could still follow the movements in the latter despite the shaky cam, in Civil War a lot of it is obscured with blurred closeups.

As others have said, it's resoundingly meh. If you like cape movies, you won't hate it, but you won't exactly love it, either.

I saw it in 3D IMAX and can say in retrospect that it didn't really add as much to the experience as subtract from it. The editing on the fight scenes really is pretty terrible.

It's the natural progression of the jump cut. By shooting action scenes at a lower frame rate, they can edit more easily and boggle audiences into thinking they've watched something good.

Sorry for responding seriously to what appears to be a thread full of shitposting, I haven't watched this one so I have no idea if it's the same problem.

But the winter soldier I had a similar problem with the action, you see the DP for that one shot all action scenes at a really quick SHUTTER SPEED which means no motion blur which gives you the "saving private ryan" effect.

This works great in saving private ryan because it's meant to be completely disorienting and confusing, in a superhero cape movie though no motion blur means all the CGI looks fucking garbage, you need to have that 180 degree 1/50 second shutter speed to make the action look believable at a 23.976 fps shutter speed.

They did this in the winter soldier by simply having the CGI elements contain motion blur, but the real life elements NOT have any and it did my fucking head in, it looked terrible.

If the animation looks bad in the winter soldier it wouldn't surprise me if they stopped blurring the CGI stuff to meet up with that saving private ryan style shutterspeed they filmed it on.

Yes there is, it's about as shit quality as the BvS one was though

Sad thing is they had the same guy for the fight scenes that made this, if I recall correctly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-HSoOFdJ3s

What do they spend the budget on? The CGI looks better on Iron Man.

>What do they spend the budget on?
Critics and shills.
>>
>>69164875
Because the CGI only was necessary for a couple of scenes and one character.
Now they have Iron Man, War Machine, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Spiderman, Ant-Man all using CGI.
>>
>>69165011
Iron Man's budget was $140M
>>

And Civil War's was 250 million with the entire Avengers cast, and Ike Perlmutter cheapening all in the background.

That was just so shitty. One of the most potentially poignant moments of the entire film just shot to shit so we can give the audience what might be the world's first "Expository Eulogy."

What a wonderfully cynical way to shit all over the character.

That's because movies are 30 fps but should have been 300 fps already for a long time. I wonder how much more will we wait.

I guess I kinda agree. I really don't think it was that bad. It was pretty clear what was happening most of the time and enjoyed the action. The only problem I had was in the airport scene the geography and location of the characters were unclear.
>>
So just so I'm clear here, Tony Stark, with the sanction of the United Nations and perfectly capable of requesting aid from member states in the apprehension of Bucky Barnes, opts instead to put the life of a 15-year-old minor at risk against a man he knows is a dangerous, brainwashed, highly capable assassin, because the genius, billionaire in a bleeding edge walking tank feels outgunned?

What a hero.

>The only problem I had was in the airport scene the geography and location of the characters were unclear.

The location of the hanger in relation to the rest of the airport didn't make a whole lot of sense. Everyone was just running random directions half of the time.

If anything, I was annoyed at how the action was shot. You can barely read the movements which is a shame as in other less frantic shots you see that the crew put effort into choreographing some cool moves. So I'm wondering, why choose to obscure movements with excessive frantic camera movements and closeups when you've got good fight choreographers? It's such a waste.

I watched the clip posted above and it's actually worse than just the shutter speed (though they've clearly done that too).

It's like this mutant combination of saving private ryan shutterspeed, speed ramping the footage and confusing editing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMdfj62iC_g&feature=youtu.be&t=49

>black guy gets punched down
>cuts to him on the ground
>when it cuts back to bucky he is 3/4's of the way up the stairs
>for around 4 frames you see a black flash zip past the screen, this is the black guy getting up and going to intercept him apparently
>the next cut is from the behind of the black guy running, when he jumps though you see he is now actually above bucky and coming at him from the complete reverse angle

Who edited this?

It's like 1/2 the shots went missing.

lol at these contrarians, the movie is easily the best capeshit flick out there, very well shot, great action sequences, Spidey and Black Panther are spot on, you'll likely won't see the plot twist coming and Marvel finally got a villain right.

it's so it's faster (while they do shakey cam).

It's literally so you can't tell shitty stunt work, weak punches and save CGI cost so it doesn't have to be perfect

the result is a cool scene like Cap helping Bucky not kill anyone is visually a mess you can't understand and the nice coreography is lost.
>>
>>69171388
>save CGI cost so it doesn't have to be perfect
somber, quiet moment of Rhodey fallen: downey's head floats above iron man's body

you can sort of understand why they blind the audience, so we don't think "really? dude is shooting and the guy stops every shot with the palm of his hand?"

we have to be disorientated so we move along

It's a shame because things like Cap tying one dude to another and dropping one or picking falling dudes is nice but the camera is almost throwing a flashbang grenade on our eyes
