Apocalypse Now is based on Hear of Darkness (Novel) but the setting is changed from Africa to Vietnam.
The movie got the emotions and alienation theme so right while the book was a bit dry.
If the same guys who wrote for AN did their magic on the original story and still had it in Africa, it would be one seriously epic movie.
They would need to flesh it out a bit and make it live and breathe.
The modern critics would probably cry over racism though.
