I was really surprised when Eastern Promises finished and it was directed by Cronenberg. I always assumed he just did surrealist/horror movies. I'm going to check out everything he's done, since I've never been let down.

2 rights, 1 wrong

Pretty good, I suppose
>>

All but those first two and Fast Company
>>

The Fly, obviously, only then Naked Lunch and the rest.

All of it.
>>

Easier to tell you which ones I haven't seen

Stero
Fast Company
Madame Butterfly
Spider
Eastern Promises
Dangerous Methos
Cosmopolis
>>
>>69125004
Eastern Promises is shit
When it's so easy to do a research on Russian mafia getting literally everything wrong is unforgivable.
Dangerous Methods - the no breast chick is very annoying in the first half. Almost unbearable.
>>
>>69124943
Good to hear, those are the two most interesting to me. Then Cosmopolis and Maps to the Stars? Supposedly they're less accessible but often considered to be his best, or "final form" movies
>>
>>69123423
Scanners, Fly, Existenz
>>
>>69125303
>Supposedly they're less accessible but often considered to be his best, or "final form" movies

By who? Everybody pretty much thinks that he's past his prime and just going through the motions in those two.

Am I the only guy who loves cosmopolis?
>>
>>69125356
Well, uh, by this board mainly. People often parallel MD and Inland Empire to Lynch and those two to Cronenberg as being basically what the director has been building towards their whole career.
>>
>>69125356
By people on the patrician spectrum, I suppose and hope. Cosmopolis and Maps To The Stars are very much the works of a mature filmmaker, and clearly at the top of Cronenberg's filmography.

WORST: Shivers
FAVORITE: Videodrome
OVERRATED: The Fly (Still quite good though)
UNDERRATED: Dead Ringers

That's a great idea. But it shouldn't be hard to know who's right and who's wrong.
>>
>>69123423
10, it was enough to realise Cronenberg is a complete hack.

Maps to the Stars is very accessible, but it's not a "fun" movie like his other ones. Never saw Cosmopolis. Probably should. With all the bad reviews sounds like fun.
>>
>I always wondered what goes on at those Masters of Horror dinners...
It's at the Hamburger Hamlet, and we have these strange visitors -- people who aren't horror but want to be. Oh, it's fun though. Now, David Cronenberg used to be horror, but now he considers himself an artist, so he's a little bit above us, which was shocking to me. Because David and I used to be friends in the old days, and now, I don't know. I'm a little low class for him. It's really weird. So I quickly made an exit. "I don't want to bother you. Sorry!" I was like, "Hey David, how you doin'?" Wow, you're kidding me. You take yourself really seriously.

I liked it, lot of good scenes and Pattinson isn't a bad crazy robot

But I'm not gonna recommend it

Videodrome and The Fly: must have been 12 when I caught them randomly on TV, I remember being mesmerized by Videdrome's weirdness but it went over my head, should rewatch them properly
Existenz: was a bit older, I'll always remember the weird organic VR plugs and gun made out of bones
History of Violence and Eastern Promises when they came out
Dead Ringers: saw it last month, loved everything about it

I'm downloading The Brood, is it a good starting point to get into his early horror? or should I just skip to Crash to get more of the stuff I loved in Dead Ringers?

John Carpenter:
> I haven’t gone in a long time [to a Masters of Horror dinner. I went to the first few and it was a lot of fun. [...] Then, it sort of became something else. I think the night that got me — David Cronenberg showed up. And he’s an old friend of mine. And unfortunately, he takes himself so seriously these days... He’s an artist now. And literally, he was holding court in the middle of the room, so I came over to talk to him. And he didn’t look at me. And I thought, this is enough of this, forget it, goodbye. And I walked out, I thought, I don’t need this anymore. And you know, fine, Eli Roth with his Hollywood hair... Darren Aronofsky, secretly I think hates horror films… Let the geniuses go. Let them go — let them be geniuses. I’ll stay home.
>>
Why do autists love to repost the Carpenter dinner story?
>>
>>69126952
Because it says a lot about his decline and nature of his filmography
>>

12, and not all of them good.

All of them. I'm a man who loves his Cronenberg.
Enjoy /tv/: A useless guide to David Cronenbergers
The starter pack or I'm new to this Canadian:
The Fly: Depressing drama posing as a sci-fi movie
Videodrome: Porn is bad, also get ready for brain tumors!
Dead Ringers: Welcome to drama-berg! Still fascinating as always but less goop
I like these wonderful diamonds of Kino give me MORE!:
The Dead Zone: A comfy Cronenberg for once? Nice mix of sci-fi/drama. Really shows off King's ability to write Americana/small towns.
The Brood: Divorce isn't fun, oh yeah and those kids are spooky. Good horror!
Naked Lunch: Makes about as much sense as William S. Burroughs' writing. Which is perfect! H.P. Lovecraft biopic when David?
Does he have anything more subtle and mature?
Spider: The most depressing episode of Mr. Bean.
Eastern Promises: Naked mobsters wrestling? Sign me up!
History of Violence: The film that made Cronenberg get kinda cocky and stop being fun. Still a great movie!
Yeah that was fun... But can a get a little of both worlds again?:
Scanners: X-Men meets Philip K Dick meets The Conversation. Pretty good!
Crash: Chuck Palahniuk really wishes he could write something this dirty and compelling. Brings a new meaning to Little red corvette baby you're much too fast.
M Butterfly: Where is the monsters? Where is the goo? Ohhh... Wait this all really happened? WHAT?! Sweet Jesus! Underrated, dat acting.
So where did this Canadian come from?:
Crimes of the future: 2deep4you
Stero: Lil David's first movie! Good job kid-o. Still better than anything by Kevin Smith.
They Cam From Within: Do you have a fear of STDs like I do? Well this one is still pretty icky.
Rabid: Best vampire/dick/armpit movie ever. And only vampire/dick/armpit movie I've seen.
What else is there? I just can't get enough!:
Existenz: Best of Cronenberg volume 1!
Dangerous Method: Remember M. Butterfly? Well here is more Oscar-bate but this time it's not as exciting.

Part 2:
>>69123423

I must see it all:
Maps to The Stars: A fun new comedy from the the laugh riot that brought us Spider and Dead Ringers!
Cosmopolis: Limo riding, lots and lots of limo riding. Kind of a mess. Oh spoiler he gets a haircut.

I guess you can watch it, I mean why the hell not?:
Fast Company: CARS CARS CARS CARS DAVID LOVES CARS VROOM!
