In Hollywood, more so than everywhere else, looks matter. Women do not, generally, age well. They're biologically worthless once they stop being able to bear children, so we find them less attractive, because the men who found young, fertile women more attractive went for those, and reproduced stronger offspring.
Men are not nearly as negatively affected by age as women.
So, in short, it's not about old women. It's about unattractive people, and old women happen to be less attractive.
