DOTM still had a lot of the same shit that bogged down Revenge of the Fallen.Transformers 1 was really good. The music was fucking great, the Transformers were advanced and imposing with awesome sound design, and I actually liked the human characters; if only for mid-late 2000s nostalgia. Just remember the scene where Bumblebee stands up for the first time, or when Barricade interrogates Sam, or when Blackout attacks the military base. All awesome.The two sequels just kind of threw away all the potential that Transformers had as fun movies. Revenge of the Fallen was filmed without a completed script (a victim of the writers' strike, but no excuse for Michael Bay). The bots were one-dimensional monsters that bled for some reason and had plot armor the extreme, none of the seeming invulnerability and sense of scale/majesty they had in Transformers 1 (I'm talking even camerawork around the Transformers, just a general sense of awe was missing), I'm not saying they were deep characters in the first film, but they were all bro-tier and memorable.

I think 2007 was the only movie with an actual storyboard. CGI was used, for lack of a better word, well. Like in Avatar.
Key to getting CGI right is the "weight" of the robots, camerawork, plausibility, and reactions of the actors. Transformers 1 nailed this. It helped that all the Transformers had great designs andDecepticons were badass miitary vehicles.
