What was the entire point of the rape subplot? It was really unnecessary.

Rape is always unnecessary but that doesn't stop men from doing it

Turning the viewers on.

I have seen like 4 seasons of the sopranos so far, and I skip EVERY single scene of her, its pointless, boring and adds nothing to the plot
>>
There is no point its just shit that can happen.

In her case it built her character since she could have had the guy killed if she had asked for tonys help
>>
>tfw I was raped by a fat chick in December

>Rape is always unnecessary but that doesn't stop men from doing it

This. Its like trying to stop a woman from infanticide
>>
It's to give an exciting buildup to Melfi revealing it to Tony, satisfyingly cutting their prior conversation right down the middle, and inevitably leading to Tony beating the rapist to death - except that's all it is. A buildup.
Because it's good to have contempt for your audience
>>
Melfi is the one person in the entire series besides Livia and Johnny Boy who has any amount of control or authority over Tony. Her giving in to her primal urges to have Tony exact vengeance on her behalf would have indebted her to him, thus forfeiting this control which was integral from a storytelling point of view.
>>
It was a part of Melfi's character arc.. She realizes she could take revenge and have Tony kill him but she fights that impulse. A common thread thoughout the whole show is Melfi finding it difficult to relate to Tony's violent criminality. After the rape she does relate (to an extent).
>>

Everyone wanted to see her nude by that point. It was wish fulfillment. Also she should've summoned Tony but she instead suffered in silence like an idiot. But she put her integrity above everything else in that scenario which is what the scene was trying to represent. She's not going to go to a mob boss for assistance with her own issues because not only would it indebt her to him but her actions would surely lead to people being threatened or hurt or worse and her conscience would allow that.

At least that's what I got from it. Didn't she have a dream about it? About this giant murderous dog that materializes and kills the rapist? Like she realizes it's symbolism for Tony and never brings up that it happened.

Then seasons later she drops Tony as a patient because of horse shit.

look at this fucking pleb

the therapy scenes are essential

just drop it and go watch capeshit some more
>>
>>68968095

The therapy scenes are half the plot. What is wrong with you?

well its integral from her point of view as his therapist
>>

I never knew why she didn't. She knew that people had gotten killed because of her in the past, when Tony sends her to a hotel very early in the show during the beef with Junior, and as others have said the guy is possibly going to do the same again so why not bend her morals a bit when it will actually do more cumulative good?

You might as well stop watching the series then you fucking idiot - you're missing out on a LARGE portion of what helps to drive the plot.

jesus christ, just stop watching the show all together if you are such a fuckig idiot

she basically thought tony was a scumbag predator. i believe she straight up told tony this at some point.

so that's her opinion of him. she then gets raped and starts thinking about how she could easily just get tony to go fuck the guy up or even kill him, and he'd do it too, because that's just the type of person he is.

it makes her question her opinion of him and puts some grey area in her mind of what kind of person tony is

so, perspective i guess?
>>
>>68968023
it's the plot that makes it absolutely clear that she will never get caught up in his social orbit

STRONK WOMAN
>>
>>68968267
i always assumed that she reported him but we simply didnt get to see it

what surprised me more is that tony never heard about it from some of this insiders in the police. sure the guy who checked her out in s1 killed himself but i find it unbelievable that he wouldnt keep taps on her

these. She still has the moral high ground in the end. She could have gone to tony and had him kill or beat the guy but she would have sunk to his level.
Which is retarded because that guy probably went on to rape more women and she did nothing to stop it. She didn't even make a police report. And her sinking to that level and having the guy killed would have been way more interesting
>>
>>68968267
>Doesn't even alert the authorities that she was raped/knows the identity of her rapist

What? She did do that, but there was some bureaucratic bullshit in the works and her case was dropped.

In terms of where the story went it was a major point because at the time she was going to refer tony to a behavioral specialist with a more practical approach, instead she chose to keep him as a source of power. I believe that her refusal to expose her rapist to tony wasn't even that important: even though she chose to remain on a moral high ground (just like in an obivan vs darth maul fight) she made a very selfish choice before that in keeping tony to herself.

It also showed how "normal" people choose to deal with such serious issues: even though her cuck husband was "furious" with everything, he was meek and didn't actually care about her being raped. To be fair though, how could he? I believe it's close to impossible to know what the victims of sex crimes feel if you weren't one. I don't really see them as too big of a deal, especially if we compare it to torture, but they say that it's horrible, so i will believe that it is. So I guess her husband = viewer.
>>
>>68968097
This

It established her as the most morally strong character in the show
>>
>>68968267
>Doesn't even alert the authorities that she was raped/knows the identity of her rapist
But she did. They talk about how there was a procedural fuckup that kept them from prosecuting.
>>
>>68968494
Simply not to be in Tony's pocket, I presume
>>

I still can't understand why she makes my dick so hard
