No I'm serious. A trilogy is a three-part narrative with interconnected thematic relations, which in total can be considered as a single work. The Captain Amrrica movies are just episodes in a bigger universe.

I went to a Cap marathon before Civil War at midnight the other day and honestly they should have thrown the 2 Avengers films in as part of it to get the whole story. They don't really connect 1>2>3 without the development Cap gets in the Avengers.

thematic trilogies are where the true kino lies which don't even share the basic conventions of characters.
The CA work as a thematic trilogy and partially as a narrative trilogy, you can trace a proper character arc for Cap:
Blind loyalty -> Questioning -> Acceptance of his role in self determination in the respective movies. Yes it's true that watching the avengers movies helps to fill in some of the narrative gaps and perhaps provides a more concrete grounding for the evolution of Cap's character but this is handled well enough in the films themselves.

It's more about Cap than any other character, and it ate a Cap movie slot.
I get what you're saying, it feels a lot more like an Avengers movie than a Cap movie but the marketing division might've felt that after AoU missed the mark in some areas having another one hot on its heels might have hurt it or something.
Either way it's really good. It does a lot of things to smooth over the faults of AoU too, so if you weren't entirely happy with it CW might retroactively improve it.
