I think Inglorious is his only 2000s movie that begins to match the maturity of his 90s movies.
It's really strange what happened to him. He had far more restraint with his earlier films. They were more grounded in realistic themes and characters. He probably doesn't have anyone in his ear these days telling him when to reel it in.
For instance, the unspoken bond between Vincent and Mia could never exist in one of his 2000s movies, with Inglorious maybe being the exception.

I thought first half of Hateful 8 was really good, up there with his best but the second half really ruined it.
I'd love to see him do a more simple movie like Jackie Brown next but unfortunately it seems like he wants to do another fucking western.

Pulp and Reservoir are undeniably a league above everything else. His style wasn't as obvious and obtrusive with those two.

I don't get why people love Reservoir Dogs. It was ok. The only scene that stands out to me is the ear cutting scene and that's mostly because of Steven Wright.

Agree.
The older ones had some style, the newer ones just dont know when to stop. It is just badly over the top, like a child eating all the ice-cream, just because they can and no one is around to tell them to stop. After a while it just does not taste good.
