The ghostbusters in this movie are in pursuit of a personcalled Rowan. They follow a script but the female casts also throw in their own variations into it too.
Here’s a line with post-it notes they did:

He was struck with the brilliant idea to knock the cast sideways and cast it with all the funny women he loves working with because that’s what he knows how to work with. An all female cast isn’t a gimmick but an organic twist to the formula.
He’s done more to put “funny women” in the spotlight. (This was in actual quotes in the article).

Clearly the haters hate this film because Bill Murray isn’t at the centre of the film and of its all female cast. He quotes twitter responses that he remembers like someone hoping he gets a mild flu or that he and Katie get run over by a truck and choke on their own blood. He responds to those who want Venkman and not Venkwoman. This is no girl version and no more a chick flick like Gravity. It’s normal that they’re ghostbusters and scientist.
Disconnecting their internet, they begin to craft this reboot and not make it a sequel because they wanted a clean slate. Wiig is the everyscientist (that’s how it appears in the article), McCarthy is ghost enthusiast, Kate is zany nuclear scientist, Jones as 48 year old subway employee newcomer and Hemsworth as dimwitted but enthusiastic secretary.
Feig still has the jitters as pushback intensifies. “I had this guy send me a picture of a Nazi shooting a black woman in the head” says Jones. “I can’t believe some of this stuff. It’s just a movie. It’s literally just a movie. We’re not writing a true story about people killing ghosts, you know? Time will tell whether ghostbusters is a hit that launches a thousand spin-offs or if a mob of misogynists are about to have a great summer. Feigs achievements for this movie are: redesigning the proton packs which are called synchrotron now, making Boston look like New York, directing slimer, obtaining the blessings of the original cast (Reitman and Aykroyd contributed some lines of technical dialogue.) Harold Ramis’s wife and children drop by the set and Murray, Weaver, Hudson agreed to do cameos but not as their original self.
Hemsworth has a cool meeting with Bill Murray and talk about the outfits. Feig’s wife managed Joel Murray but he never met Bill before until the 40th anniversary party of SNL. He mustered up the courage to talk to Murray. He talked about the film and Murray said “Oh yeah” and darted off. He was worried he wouldn’t show up but he did.

First of all they could've done an all men cast again and everyone would've hated it as well, it's not about them being all women, nobody wants a Ghosbusters 3 without the old cast.
Then there's the fact that people have reboot fatigue, this is the millionth bad reboot sucking the fun out of a good series, people are just fed up with it and are taking a stand.
On top of that the actors that they chose to be in this movie are godawful, they could've done a much better job casting women than the ones they have chosen, the acting in the trailer is just cringey and awkward.
Lastly there's also the obvious socio-political theme in the movie which is just fucking retarded, Ghostbusters was about science vs religion and had a lot of dark humor, not some socio-political jokes about race and gender and vagina jokes, it's reducing Ghostbusters to propaganda and bad sex jokes.
People are rightfully pissed off that they're using a beloved series to push their politics,
