>>
Anyone else prefer the first two seasons? I like the isolated, lonely feeling.
>>
>>68887480
Series 4-6 are the absolute pinnacle for me. But series 1-2 are classic in their own way.
>>
>>68887480

Tough choice, we never saw a lot of the original Kochanski, but I'd rather fuck Chloe even if her character is a bit stuck up

>>
After having watched the whole series 4 times, I've finally come to the conclusion that I just don't ever want to watch seasons 7, 8 and Back to Earth ever again.

They just don't have the same quality as the others.
Season 10 was a step back in the right direction, hopefully 11 and 12 are good.
>>
>>68887912
>I've finally come to the conclusion that I just don't ever want to watch seasons 7, 8 and Back to Earth ever again

Series 7 gets a lot of unnecessary flack. I liked the interaction and relationship between Kryten and Kochanski - there were some great episodes in the 7th. Series 8 and Back to Earth I can agree on.
>>
Season 5 was a masterpiece. Every episode is fantastic. Plus each character dies at least twice.
>>
>>68887855
Never thought about that. Probably because he was alive and they only brought back everyone who was dead. They didn't make another Kochanski either.
>>
>>68888291
Wow I forgot about Kochanksi, now it makes even less sense. Kochanski is from a paralell universe, do the nanobots know this?

It's pretty sad to think about how Lister and the Cat are the only truly alive people in the show. Kryten is a robot and Rimmer is a projection. All of the resurrected crew are just clones.Kochanski is alive too I guess.
>>
>>68885988
Rimmer>Male Holly>Lister>Kryten>Cat>Female Holly>Kochanski
Having said that, I'd rather drop Kryten than The Cat, I loved the first two season dynamic of the odd couple with Cat as the outsider.
>>
>>68888415
That was the whole premise originally, Lister is literally the last human alive in the universe.
>>
>>68888465
As the show went on, the Cat ended up having some of the best one-liners. His character was definitely the one which developed the most.
>>
>>68888415
>Wow I forgot about Kochanksi, now it makes even less sense. Kochanski is from a paralell universe, do the nanobots know this?

whichever universe shes from shouldnt change that she is satisfying the role of kochanski in the ship

I love all the characters to be quite honest.
>>
>>68888584
everyone likes that hes a walking black stereotype.
>>
>>68888584
He became the show's ex machina, always solving the crew's problems for them

He was insufferable in season 7 though, but not the worst thing about the show during that year.
>>
>>68885988
Anyone here read the books? The ones by them both and Backwards are amazing, and really flesh a lot of thing the show barely went into.
e.g. Better Than Life gives what you unconsciously desire, and makes you think the game is actually your life, so that whoever uses it ends up dying from not eating or drinking.

The problem I always had with Chloë Annett as Kochanski is that it kind of misses the point of the character. Lister being obsessed with Kochanski and going on about how beautiful she is is funny because she's just a pretty average Glaswegian and as disgusting as Lister is she is hardly out of his league. It's part of what makes Lister so relatable and likable, that he's fallen hopelessly in love with someone so unremarkable which is something we all do at some point.

But Chloë Annett is basically a model and her version of Kochanski is suddenly this spoiled upper class posh girl. It's less relatable and less interesting.

The writing for Annett was also pretty poor and she was painfully unfunny so that doesn't help.

>>
>>68888759
The differences in characterisation can be chalked up to "muh paralell universe", but the original Kochanski seemed a bit stuck up as well. Not to that degree, though.

It's a testament to just how obsessed Lister was with Kochanski that he was willing to accept what is essentially another person who just happened to look like her and was nothing like her

i dont care for doctor who. there's too much lore and stuff. i can't jump into a show and know I'm missing all the injokes and I'm not going to devote weeks watching the old ones.
>>
>>68889526
There's like two injokes a season and they don't effect the show at all outside of "dude reference lmao"

All you gotta know is he's an old dude in a blue box who has 13 lives
>>
>>68889610
My main gripe is half the time the show doesn't even make sense.
If it was a fixed point in time that the Doctor died, why did having a robot that looked like him die get him out of it? Did he literally fool time itself? Could he have just had someone shout 'The Doctor's dead', would that have tricked time?
>>
>>68889659
The "fixed point" was everybody ~seeing~ the doctor die, and ~believing~ he was dead.
Whether or not he actually died is beside the point
>>
>>68889728
So nobody from that year onward thinks the Doctor is still alive? Wouldn't everyone now know he's had a generation past that?
>>
>>68886120
>Kochanski
>Main cast
Hello newfriend.
>>
>>68889104
Wasn't it Fiji?
>>
>>68889759
It was a pretty big plot point in the following series that everybody thought he was dead/forgot about him, but they seem to have moved on from that now. Maybe it will be adressed again in series 10 with The Silence (who he was trying to trick) being rumoured to return.

The continuity stuff like this doesn't really concern your typical episode though
>>
>>68889891
Oh, I'm not that guy, I dropped the show ages for somewhat plebby reasons. Stupid shit like that is just so annoying, the Doctor Who writers really think convolution=being smart. Of course, there's always the chance it will be cleared up with 'time paradox lol'.

Probably the most interesting part for me was in the book with the more realistic Ace Rimmer, and the prologue and epilogue describing how the two Rimmer's lives differed (Normal Rimmer's parents intervened so he didn't stay down a year at school, while Ace Rimmer's parents failed to stop him repeating).
