I rate it 9/10.

No idea why it gets hate.

I am surprised. I expected troll post.

Yeah, after seeing MoS, when I saw this movie in theater I was in tears it made me so happy. that's never happened to me watching a movie, but as a fan of Wrath of Kahn, it was a really interesting movie.

I like these movies like Gensys that play on the tropes/parody the old movies...
>>
Because the plot is ridden with holes and everything about the climax is pointless and insufferable.

It has some neat scenes and it's entertaining enough but the bigger fan of TOS you are, the more offensive the movie becomes.

I like how they made the Klingons look like faggots.

Also Spock beating the shit out of that dude on the flying truck that's awesome and that's how Spock should be a badass motherfucker.

I love it too

Star Trek 2009 and Into Darkness are both much better movies than The Force Awakens

I don't know what went wrong with Abrams, maybe his visual sensibilities just don't fit Star Wars.
>>
>>68879262
This. I can't remember the specifics, but I remember having these complaints.
>>
Say what you will about JJ Abrams, but he really injected some magic blood into this dead franchise, bringing it back to life.

The entire opening sequence was a huge disappointment for me. Then they should have just let Kirk die so the movie's emotional impact would have been felt instead of forgotten.
>>

they pay homage by basically taking the old and twisting it. also kirks resurrection was just pointless

They really sucked the wind outta my sails by bringing Kirk back. At least respect his sacrifice enough to let him stay dead for most of a movie, like Spock.

Having said that I liked it. Cumberbatch and Quinto just fucking killed it and Pine was really good too.

I mean sometimes I'll start a Trek thread when I'm not actively watching but they always tend to be super baity often veering into abject nonsense.

Nah. They recycled the most famous scene from the most highly-rated movie of the franchise and cheapened it. they didn't even try to convince you that kirk will actually stay dead, and that made spock's scream ridiculous.

I liked it a lot, but I've never watched it again. I've watched ST 09 a bunch, as well as TWoK and FC. I think it went off the boil in the third act, the Kirk death stuff was ridiculously poorly done.

Gets too much hate, audiences/critics liked it and so did Trek fans in general.
>>
Does anyone else really dislike JJTrek's Kirk? He comes across as an obnoxious fratbro. He becomes less so towards the end of Star Trek but then turns back into one for Into Darkness. I was happy when he died.

Really enjoyed it, especially the subtle hints that it was fucking Khan they were dealing with. Like the 72 torpedoes, that kind of shit.

Benedict was no Ricardo Montalban, but he still did a pretty good job. Seemed more like an emotionless killer than the passionate warlord that Ricardo was.

Yeah, I have a picture kissing George with my wife even too. Saw it with her, opening day, in that UHD thing they got.

Was a good day.

We just like good movies, not even casuals... but yeah. Compared to a lot of the shitty movies I've seen that was one of the better ones.

In tears. I got a good sense for movies, so whatever.

Seemed realistic really, you can assume he matured over time to become the Kirk from TOS.

His Spock on the other hand . . .
>>
>>68879198

I liked it too, and I was already a fan of TOS, TNG, and DS9.

The plot didn't make much sense, but I like the fact that they acknowledged the fact Kirk was an irresponsible asshole in the first movie and humbled him a bit in this one.

I still think it's better than Trek 5,7,9, and 10. Probably on par with First Contact like Trek 2009 was.
>>
>>68879198
It's too long, so many scenes are pointless, and the ending is literally "well how did they win in the old show?"
>>
>>68879262
this

the third act of the movie especially is really just a total disaster on every level

>87%
>>
>>68882898

That is, I think, the weirdest part of these reboots.

The 3 writers keep setting up all those references like the fans will love them. In interviews people like JJ, and Alex Kurtzman (or Roberto Orci, I forget), keep saying "we're making a movie for non fans, but we put in lots of references to appease them".

I'm not even inferring that, they pretty much say so explicitly in the making-of documentaries and that JJ interview with Jon Stewart where Jon said "I stopped listening when you said you didn't like Star Trek."

I liked it too, Cumberbatch was probably the most memorable villain in a recent blockbuster. Only problem is the tribbles blood asspull at the end, other than that it was a fun, well-made, entertaining movie
>>
>>68879388
>>68879262
There aren't any plot-holes really. There is just some really bizarre shit that obviously will never be addressed again. Like the fact that they literally have a cure for death.
>>
>>68879198

I'd only knock it down to 8/10 because the REVERSE KHAN stuff in the third act is a drag and gets to the point of immersion breaking. Immediately reviving Kirk was just a bad call, you either do that plot and let it play out, or don't do it at all.

Other than that, entertaining.
