They explain how David knew their language.
He learnt all the ancient human languages, found the common traits and compared that to what he saw on the walls of the ship.
As for its pronunciation, I guess it's based off what we know of how certain letters are pronounced (even though there's slight differences across languages, vowels are common to all languages). I imagine he, as a computer, would have crossed referenced what the engineer was saying, the patterns and Inflexions of how it was said with everything else he knew and patched it together.
