Also why did they make Max actually crazy in this? It's one of the worst parts of the film for me. Totally invalidates Max as a character. He was never insane. Mel played him as the only sane man in an insane world, that's why he's "mad." His wasteland might as well have not been there at all, to him any world would be dead. But here he's a PTSD stricken feral with nothing interesting to say or do. And he sounds like Bane.

Totally agree. Actually, I kind of even like '98. It's a decent blockbuster with a really comfy portrayal of NY. Sure, it's a little too long but it's got some nice characters and with a little better writing the sadness of the ending could have been really great. I mean, it's NOT Godzilla, but it's still a nice monster movie. At least they tried something.
