Well this was remarkably average, really don't know why are people so desperate for more, I mean I would watch it if there was more, but I'm not exactly hungry as fuck, like the internet led me to believe I would be after finishing it.
Also I know that the whole sci-fi/western mix is done so the show would be more interesting, but It still bothered me a lot how it didn't make any sense.
Why is everyone dressed like it's 1900? Why are most of future weapons designed like ancient revolvers, shotguns etc.? Why didn't they never install some weapons on serenity or some kind of a shield considering the line of work they do? What happened that suddenly prostitution became a high ranking/well respected job? Why do they have useless shit like pool with hologram balls (dear god this is fucking stupid) ?

To me all your criticisms are valid, however...
Here is also why I liked the show:
1. The western/sci-fi mix felt to me like a throwback to the late 1960s. Shows like High Chaparral, Bonanza and original Star Trek. So the first point is pure nostalgia mix.
2. Malcolm Reynolds is the closest thing I've seen to Han Solo on a /tv/. The lovable rogue who will still put you through the turbines of his spaceship if you mess with him.
3. The Reaver's were quite scary and the reactions the actors gave just their mention was enough to give it a feel of authenticity.
4. The firefly ship felt very real. The viewer came to know where everything was. Just like the crew.
5. The characters. Caricatures for sure, but they were well done caricatures.

I like how crichton becomes scorpy sometimes, and eventually gets a reputation of being some galaxy wide badass. it's really interesting , and works because of the idea of how even the ancients see him as 'worthy' of wormhole tech. or the did.
also, yeah the fucking alien girls are hot, but it even does some interesting style of shows later on.
it's one of the trippiest sci-fi series ever made. maybe kinda slow, but 4 seasons go on for a long time.

If you listened to the intro I think you'd get a better idea of what they were going for in the show. They didn't have time to make nifty space weapons, because they were focused on the technology for space travel and planet terraforming. It was supposed to be analoguos to American frontier. The crew didn't have laser weapons because they were either poor or attached to their weapons in a sentimental way, or at least that's how it seemed.
