Why do people blame "bad marketing" for Dredd's failure?

Can't people just admit that they were tired of seeing more capeshit at the time?
>>
>>68820301
because it was bad marketing.
>>
>>68820301
>tired of seeing more capeshit at the time
>came out the same year as the avengers
>>
>>68820301
> saying its capeshit.

Nice meme!
>>
>>68820301
The two women of the movie were hot as fuck
>>
>>68820301
It was marketed as Dredd 3D. Marketing it as a 3D movie is fucking stupid. Plus it was R. An R rated 3D movie will sell for close it nothing
>>
I didnt even know it existed until it was out on dvd
>>
>>68820301
>capeshit

14 days iso-cube for you.
>>
>>68820301
>Capeshit

Thats 3 weeks in the iso cubes perp
>>
>>68820301

You're right, you can't really call it bad marketing.

>it was never marketed at all
>>
>>68820301

Dredd isn't capeshit... I mean I know you are just posting a deliberately idiotic post to get some (You)'s but Dredd isn't in any way capeshit.

Capeshit follows a formula:

>average dude with some problems
>incident gives powers
>learns to use powers. Maybe more problems
>oops. the incident also created another powers
>fight
>win

Dredd does not follow this formula, it is LITERALLY a day in the life of a supercop in a future city.

everything based on a comic is capeshit. just because you like this one, doesnt make it non-capeshit.
Some capeshit is absolutely great. dont get mad, that the genre has that name
>>
>>68822447
Is the walking dead capeshit?
>inb4 muh graphic novels
>>
>>68822447

>everything based on a comic is capeshit

No it isn't. If the comic is about, let's say, the experience of being a woman growing up in Iran, then it's pretty obviously not capeshit.
>>
>>68822447
You mean /tv/'s made up genre
>>
>>68820301
Normal people dont care about "capeshit", they just want to see a movie.

This probably had more to do with 1. Stallone Dredd being shit and 2. virtually no advertising means normies dont know this movie existed
>>
>>68820301
Except it's not a Superhero movie. In fact, many people probably wouldn't have been aware that it was a comic adaptation.
>>
It had limited 2D release. Barely any cinemas in the UK showed it in 2D
>>
>>68820301
That remake was trash and the original was way better. Fight me idc. I will say that the trailer for that though was pretty amazing.
>>
>>68820301

this movie looks cool can someone link me?

i tried googling OREOO and i just got retards talking about cookies
>>
>Dredd
>capeshit

I want /v/ to go
>>
>>68820301
One thing I never got about this movie was that it got so much praise for being "Gritty", "realistic" and "serious" just like in the comic.

Have any of these people read a Judge Dread comic? One of his main enemies is a zombie version of himself from another universe where life itself is a crime. But fuck that - let's focus on one tower block.

Written by the co-creator of Judge Dredd, coincidentally.

No, I actually don't know where these come from. The 2 case files I have are all longer arcs than just 6 panels.

so for example"blue is the warmest colour" is capeshit?
i just missed the one liners an lazors on the screen then.
>>
>Can't people just admit that they were tired of seeing more capeshit at the time?

I don't know how you could even begin to make this argument, since people seem to have limitless appetites for this pop-schlock garbage.
>>
It wasn't marketed as capeshit though. No one even knows about the comic. If they did market it as a superhero movie it probably would have been more popular. Instead people just saw as a remake of a movie that was shit to start with.
>>
>>68824169
>It wasn't marketed as capeshit though

It wasn't marketed at all
>>
>>68820301
I only went to see it at the cinema because one of my friends is a big film nut and asked if I wanted to go with him.

I didn't see any advertising for Dredd at all, which really is a shame, since it was a really good film, for what it was.
>>
>>68820301
It had horrible marketing, the film was pushed back a year and they barely showed it in cinemas. My local cinema had two showings for it and I almost didn't even notice it, even though I had been obsessing about the film for years. I went to both showings and it's probably the best film I've ever seen in cinema.
>>
>>68824376
And by "best" I mean the one I had best experience watching.
>>
>>68824408
Agreed. The bass was phenomenal in my cinema.

Where I live, it was only showing in 3D, at a time when a lot of people still were not keen on the whole 3D thing.

Add to that, it was only showing for 2 weeks at my cinema (whereas big name movies often stay playing for 6 weeks or more).

It never really had a chance...that and the whole issue with The Raid similarities.

Was it like that for everyone else, as in only showing at the cinema for short period of time? Same happened with Pacific Rim, like Dredd, it came out... I thought "I'll go see that end of next week" and then suddenly it was gone.

Didn't Dredd do decently in dvd/blu sales though? I'd love for another movie as much as its unlikely to happen, shame really.
>>
>>68820301
It was bad marketing to a point but the unwillingness to compromise made it niché too. It's really for the fans and no-one else. No shame in not being a box office hit when what makes a hit today is shit like Transformers and unending remakes.

>>
>>68827096
Seriously, I get disgusted when you hear about another shitty movie raking in more cash than the GDP of smaller nations. You can ignore that its an industry though. It didn't need to be a huge hit, but I'm willing to throw money at an R-rated genre action-adventure-comedy-drama-thing just in hopes that they might get the hint that everything doesn't need to be sterile PG garbage.
>>
>>68827258
I really enjoyed this comic. I wouldn't mind a movie of this just to see how controversial it become when soccer moms take their kids to a Furry Flick and getting treated to this.
>>
>>68827258
As far as I know it hasn't been adapted, thought I remember Spielberg was trying to do an animated version of it for years.
>>
>>68827279
Fuck the industry and judging things on whether they make money. This adaptation was loyal to the character and fans were content with the outcome. It will no doubt be respected as a cult classic in years to come and we won't have to suffer subsequent poorly written sequels that would detract from the original.
It wasn't a flop at all.
>>
>>68827699
Because hollywood never makes unecessary sequels to cult classics long after their shelf life is up, right?
