Personally, while I thought A3 was a kind of weak film, I liked that the fan favorites from Aliens were killed unceremoniously within the first ten minutes. It made the universe seem cold, unfair and kind of shitty, which was fitting with the themes of the first film IMO. This concerted effort to turn Ripley from just a normal person thrust into horrible circumstances responding however she can, into some badass alien-slaying female John McClane just irks me because it reeks of some 12 year old coming up with scenarios while playing with his action figures.
