The First Act of Return of the Jedi is by far the best in the whole Star Wars saga.
The Clone Wars is way better, but the first act of RotJ is ok.

>the sky is blue
>2+2=4
any other mind-blowing revelations for us OP?
>>68795087
The first act was pretty weak Luke's entire backup(?) plan was based on knowing that Jabba wouldn't kill him on the spot and would reunite him with his droids above the Sarlacc.
Also Boba Fett died like a bitch and it still bothers me.
I don't know how anyone can like 30 minutes of slow, boring Jabba's palace
>>68795138
gtfo of here the Clone Wars was a steaming pile of shit and you know it.
>>68795087
Return of the Jedi
1st Act > 3rd Act > 2nd Act
Empire
3rd Act >1st Act > 2nd Act
ANH
2nd Act >1st Act >3rd Act
Revenge of the Sith
>Whole film is brilliant
AoTC
>Brilliant except for Padme and Anakin love stuff
Phantom
>Brilliant except for some Jar Jar stuff
>>68795087
Wrong, the fucking plan is incoherent and stupid. The first acts line up in order with the movies in general really.
The build up is tremendous. The audience knows Luke lost his saber fighting Vader, so him trying to steal the blaster and killing the beast with no weapon is bad ass.
we get faked out into thinking Leia rescued Han all on her own
That half an hour of waiting is worth it when the green light-saber pops while the music plays

This is correct. You know your Star Wars, my friend.
>>68795173
Your dad is a nigger.
>>68796065
Wait, didn't Luke already assemble his saber before this scene occurs? I mean, if you go by the deleted scenes.
>>68795087
it's an actual piece of shit and one of the worst parts of the entire series.
what was the plan? This shit is all over the place.
>>68795928
>this fucking retard
>>68796154
>what was the plan?
Rescue Han.
It was pretty simple for anyone with a functioning brain.
>>68795087
The parts with Vader, Luke, and Sheev are also the best parts in the whole Star Wars saga.
>>68795087
They get a lot of mileage out of returning to a familiar environment, without recycling the old set pieces and plots.
Lucas made that mistake in the prequels by revisiting the same slave farm, for dramatic purposes instead of reasons that served the character's growth.
I thought Episode VII would have more of a 'Return To Oz' vibe with Disney at the wheel, but it jumped into everything without telling a story.
https://youtu.be/xir8CNNP2HU
'Dramatic purposes' should be in quotes since there was no tension in Ep. II either
>>68795087
ROTJ was a fucking weird star wars movie. Instead of being a full movie it felt like seperate 30 minute episodes of a television series.
>>68796827
How many major setpieces are there?
The stage would usually use Five, and that would cover each Act.
The first act of Empire is better. The Battle of Hoth and everything leading up to it is incredible.
>>68796908
nah my cloud city will always come first
I like ROTJ hell of a lot more than ESB.
I'm sorry but aside from the hickup that is the ewoks, who btw I still don't think are all that bad, ROTJ is essentially perfect, and has the best scenes in the whole saga.
>I am a Jedi, like my father before me
>The force is strong in my family
>Let me look on you, with my own eyes
Beautiful.
>>68796990
This image makes me want to see a remastered CGI edition of Empire by Lucas but too bad he can't do anymore due to Disney.
>>68796908
I kinda hate Hoth desu. It's dull as fuck and the movie only gets going in Cloud City after the fucking horrendous asteroid shit.
Honestly RotJ is my favorite. Jabba's Palace is GOAT Star Wars like OP said. All the mysterious shit going on on Endor feels genuinely interesting and sci-fi rather than the deadness of Hoth. And fuck man nothing tops the Vader/Sheev/Luke stuff.
It's always been crazy to me that people say ESB is the best when the only great part is the Luke and Vader stuff at the end.
6 > 4 > 5 > 1 > 7 > 3 > 2 for me but I know many will disagree, especially with my ranking of 1.
>>68795999
True, I always gain a new appreciation when I try to watch Star Wars with new eyes.
My Dad's was super in to them and would basically tell me what would happen throughout the entire movie every time I watched them as a kid, so from a young age I just always new what was going to happen and never really got to have that first experience with them.
>>68797155
I forgot plot points in these films when rewatching them, because they're filled with so many monsters and surreal scenes that you forget How they connect to the story. For example, you might forget how Luke was taken out by getting a paw to the face, or how the group gets strung up in an ewok net. It's almost always a series of surreal segueways taking us from setpiece to setpiece, for a character moment.
The model work and mattes make ESB and ROTJ about equal.
This for example, is totally surreal, yet based in something like The Wizard of Oz. It's recognized, even though this is not Emerald City.

Steal from the best fantasy films possible, and rupture the expectation
Best music in the original trilogy?

>>68795087
True. But the ewoks brah. They make it unwatchable.
>The prequels had the best soundtrack
This is something we can all agree on at least right?
>>68796037
Not watching capeshit > waching capeshit
>>68797660
Ewoks were not in the First Act, you stupid Aussie cunt.
>>68797660
The Ewoks are a big 'get out of jail free' card, but you can see them relying on the standard method of writing there, just in terms of how they shift from action into a more relaxed mood.
The surreal motif of being caught in a net just sets you up for this weird treetop setpiece/environment (conveniently out of the Imperial line of sight). After those two elements prime the atmosphere, then they're willing to draw characters. It's very dreamlike, and it never leads with character for that reason.
>>68797660
wrong
long live yub nub
>>68797556
I'd say so. I like how it manages to weave pretty much all the major songs into one. Pretty bad ass desu.
At this point, you either go with the transition or hate it for manipulating you
There's a reason why Jabba and the Ewoks appear in the same movie... Jabba can't be manipulated through chivalry, but these more industrious and social characters can.
If you view it in three acts, Vader's basically a combination of both previous monsters.
>>68795087
Meh that movie is good but I mean the movie could do without Jabba palace. Or maybe if it wasn't so goofy (and I'm talking even about the original version not the remastered singing ones). They could've given it a more cantina tone but instead it felt more like an introduction into prequel territory.
Ewoks - see above. Ewoks were the OT version of gungans and could've been taken out all together.
The ending scenes though
>Dat space battle
>Dat jedi battle and struggle
That was near goat material and what the movie should've been. That was star wars
>>68795928
God damn troll
Why are Jawas cool but not Ewoks? Just don't get why savage bearlike aliens are bad. They're not overly obnoxious or anything like a Jar-Jar.
>>68796037
>Wonder woman scenes
Her walking around smirking like an idiot? She didn't even do anything until the end, and it ducked when she showed up. Extremely underwhelming .
>>68798121
Its just people being dramatic babies. Literally the rest of the movie could be flawless, but one little less then perfect thing and its all ruined
>>68798121
I like both. I also sort of understand George's fascination with midget fantasy creatures.
>>68798121
Ewok are only a problem when they get you out of trouble, instead of getting you into trouble...
They're too cute to be firefighters.
*Return of the Jedi is by far the best in the whole Star Wars saga.
FTFY
>>68798121
Because they're tiny it's weird
I don't mind the ewoks to be honest, although the film would have been better had they been replaced by wookies.
Even with its flaws though return of the Jewish has some of the best moments in the trilogy
>Jabbas palace
>the speeder chase
>the final luke vs vader fight
>the emperor
>you already have...

The problems with RotJ have nothing to do with the ewoks. It's like how people that can't articulate why the prequels are poorly constructed movies just harp on jar jar binks. Its a symptom of a problem but not really a problem in itself.
The big failing of Jedi is that when it came time to write and construct the movie Lucas started to really hate star wars and wanted to quickly wrap the whole series up. He had initially planned for a pair of trilogies, IV - VI and then VII - IX, with VII - IX being generally about Luke's sister that was hidden on the other side of the galaxy. There was a lot of setup for long-term payoffs put into Empire Strikes Back for this reason, however because Lucas decided he didn't want to make any more star wars films at this point he decided to wrap everything up in "Revenge of the Jedi". Leia was never meant to be luke's sister, the death star II was never a thing, it was instead going to be a battle on and around the then unnamed imperial homeworld, "Coruscant" was created in the early 90's by Timothy Zhan, and the movie was going to have a more down-beat tone with Han Solo dying to push the films into the next trilogy with the stakes still pretty high.
Instead you have Lucas using Richard Marquand as a meat-puppet to essentially wrap up all of these plot points in a single movie by forcing Leia into the sister role, slapping a second death star into the movie to have an easy and importantly far less expensive film, and the number of locations was cut way down by having most of the film set on Endor, with a second act that goes on for far too long with nothing of consequence happening. This is also why yoda just up and dies suddenly, they had to wrap up everything and push Luke into this position of being the last Jedi and then identify his sister and have her accounted for as well to wrap everything up in a nice little package.

>>68798558
>it's patrician to enjoy shit movies.
Prequel fags are the worst.
>>68798618
Jabba's palace was the beginning of Lucas's decline.
It's where you start to see him favoring putting as much wacky shit on screen as possible over storytelling
The trilogy ending with a fucking teddy bear luau is the worst thing about this movie
>Boba Fett will never be recognized as the joke and meme that he would have been if this were released in the current day
