The writing style of SoUE is leagues above Harry Potter. The dialogue in the HP books was absolutely and objectively average.
The biggest problem with a SoUE adaptation is the settings are usually pretty surreal and the internal world logic is often absurd. I don't like using the term 'kafkaesque' because it often derails a thread but looking at a bunch of the books (3, 4, 6, 7, and 13 stand out the most but a bunch of other ones also apply) you get all sorts of weird societies that use strange rules and heuristics to carry on life in a way that no sane society ever would. The best way to do an adaptation would be an animated series, where that sort of satirical setting and surreal visual style would be right at home.
