This kind of thing is where the discussion about piracy should be. I saw Deadpool twice in theaters, which is about as much as I'll see anything in a theater. I'll be buying the blu-ray on Day 1. As soon as it's done downloading, I delete the torrent (sorry about not seeding.) I don't share it with anyone, or play it in public.
Is this still really piracy? No one will lose a dime over me downloading this file. I understand that I'm not the problem, and people selling burned Blu-rays of pirated movies are screwing over the studios. But I'm only downloading stuff that either I'd never see in a theater or buy, or stuff that I'll buy anyway, even after downloading it.
I'd rather just wait another week for a good quality rip instead of jumping on the first thing that leaks.

If the laws were meant to fight piracy they would have changed by now. The best way to fight piracy is to make the content as easy and fast/convenient to get as possible, but instead we have the exact opposite; massive fines and DRM out the ass. That means everyone who is downloading and uploading.

If you are thinking about the few large prosecutions against uploaders:
They were uploaders/rippers.
Not only some random people who seeded a torrent to 1:1 ratio.
Letter/ISP warnings etc comes from downloading and seeding. Because they can't see the difference with the tools they are using.
