So, what's their plan? They are obviously outnumbered, Jon Snow is dead and they flock around his corpse. Literally the whole watch is against Jon's ideas. There is no way they can expect them to say "Oops, we were wrong lets get back to normal." unless there is some deus ex machina. Which is of course what will happen but what they can't realistically expect. The sane option would be to abandon the Night's Watch or leave to another NW castle to tell what happened (Edd was able to get out). Either way, they can't expect a superior instance to intervene. The north is in turmoil and the rest of the NW is too understaffed to punish a mutineering Castle Black.
Now, why are they going for a last stand and hold out for the vague prospect of wildlings coming to their help and doing what exactly? Mow down the remaining NW at Castle Black?
Can you really not fathom such things as loyalty or friendship? Must be a sad life.

Don't sweat it, it's probably just a woman.

This, and Ed literally says
>we're not seeing tomorrow
at one point, so it's not like they don't know how shitty their chances are

They're not entirely alone, lot's of people weren't too happy about it in the mess hall meeting. Not everyone's ok with betraying their Lord Commander (again).

Edd could only get out under the cover of dark and everyone else at castle black was in the mess hall at the time. Now they're stuck in that building, waiting and hoping for Edd to return with the wildlings or for the Red (old) woman to do something.
In the end, I think she will ress Jon Snow and with Davos, The Red Woman, and Ghost at his side, he'll ride south with his wildling army, fuck House Bolton in the ass with his sword, reclaim Winterfell, unite the North and fortify the Wall against the incoming undead.

Edd got out to bring back the Wildlings to help them.

>Edd told Davos to "Look for my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the south."
>On the fifth day Thorne and the other Nights Watch are slowly breaking the door.
>Davos got on top of Ghost and told the others to ride for Wrath, ride for Ruin, and the Red Dawn.
>As the loyalists break out of the room they see Edd alone on the horizon, smiling.
>Then comes Ramsay from next to him with a host of
>Twenty.
>Good.
>Men.
>They charged Thorne's flank and with the saving of Castle Black, united the North, northmen and wildlings alike.
