Why didn't the sentient machines in the Matrix simply use cows instead of humans as their energy source?
>>
>>68672256
Irony
>>
Humans killed all the cows when they realized the machines were using them for power
>>
>>68672256
>thinks that's the real word
Because the matrix isn't for the humans.
>>
>>68672256

Shutup that's why
>>
>>68672256
I read somewhere machines used humans as a processor rather than power source in earlier scripts. it makes slightly more sense
>>
>>68672256
payback
>>
Why do they need organic life at all?
>>
>>68672256

You can't use living things as a power source in any meaningful way. They'll cost more power to keep alive than they will generate.
>>
why didnt they just use fucking batteries
>>
>>68672533
It's made by two guys who chopped their dicks off. Don't expect from them to make any sense.
>>
>>68672360
That would actually make a shitload more sense. Including the fact that people that enter the matrix from the ships are able to do much more than the average human being because their brain is free from the processing information for machines.
>>
>expecting any logic or consistency from two men who believe they are women and don't seek psychological help
>>
>>68672409
It's explained in the first film: the humans destroyed the Sun, their power source, so they use humans as a source of power.
>>
>implying there wasn't a simulated cow version of the Matrix
>tip: there is a version where Trinity is the One and wakes up naked, wet and slimy
>>
>>68672256
It was mercy, or they eradicate all humans or just find a new use for them, remember that the first matrix was some kind of paradise world, but human nature ruined it, the machines didn't treat humans like humans treat machines
>>
>>68672931
even in the version we got, somebody (morpheus) must have pulled a wet, naked, probably teenage or younger trinity out of a pod at some point in the past
>>
I honestly would have liked to see the matrix from the machines perspective after the war and all that, trying to fumble around and create the matrix and the fuck ups that ensued.
>>
>>68672256

Originally, the machines needed human brains to serve as computer power, not electricity. This was then supposedly changed because dumb Americans couldn't understand, which I don't believe. It would have made more sense and idiots wouldn't have seen a difference.
>>
>>68672892
so what do they feed the humans? can't the just use that as their energy source? seems a tad more efficient
>>
>>68672951
this, the animatrix also shows that the machines tried and tried to get on with humans but they didn't want it.
>>
>>68672951
>>68673933
This and this.

The Animatrix films The Second Renaissance 1 and 2 depict the AI's as continually trying to co-exist with Humans, but Humans are unable to trust them. This way the Matrix makes a lot more sense. It's not simply a way to get power (since as people always point out, it's a very ineffective mean to get power and would most likely take more power to run that it could generate) it's a way to exist with Humans in peace, without them knowing.
>>
>>68672256
Because the author(s) didn't want it that way. There's 1001 reasons why they shouldn't use humans for anything.
>>
>>68673877
They feed them dead humans.
>>
>>68673877
It turns out that humans in the real world don't need to eat at all. That's just something the machines added in the matrix to increase human suffering by introducing the sensation of hunger.
>>
>>68672892
>destroyed the Sun

They blocked it.
>>
>>68675862
>blocking the sun
Why would you do that?
>>
>>68672622
Holy shit, that's deepest lore. It would also explain why Neo can shutdown sentinels at will. Because they are somehow still connected.
>>

They didn't destroy the sun, they clouded the skies so that they couldn't use the solar energy. How the fuck would they destroy the sun?
>>
>>68672611

No, the cow idea. The humans make sense as a 'computer' as originally intended as someone else pointed out but also for the machines to keep their 'creators/gods' alive but imprisoned and as subjects to study to better their AI etc.
>>
Because humans used machines as slaves before and Machines got their revenge vy using humans as power-slaves. Pottery.
>>
>>68676165
Or why not just put massive solar panels in orbit above the clouded skies?
>>
>>68676217
Shoot a nuke into the sun?
>>
>>68675974

Because the machines relied solely on solar energy to operate at the time.
>>
>>68676329
that's retarded. how would the energy collected get back to the machines through the clouds?
>>
>>68676333
That wouldn't destroy the sun, the sun is thousands of times bigger than the earth, and even the biggest nukes we have ever used never fucked us over, other than by creating godzilla.
>>
>>68672256

Early drafts of the script had the machines using the humans as one interconnected super computer. Studio execs deemed this too heady for the average movie-goer, and scripts were re-written to simply make humans batteries.
>>
>>68676217
>>68676405
>How the fuck would they destroy the sun?

If plot requires it, it can be done, regardless of what science says.
>>

>>

>>
>>68675459
>The Second Renaissance 1 and 2 depict the AI's as continually trying to co-exist with Humans, but Humans are unable to trust them

AI shill pls leave.

Let's not forget that the first one to attack were the AI. B1-66ER murdered it's owner, other people and several animals before being brought in to be destroyed. Humans had coexisted peacefully with their creations for years at this point safe in the belief that their protocols prevented them from turning.

Now humans realized the machines were faking and could go on homicidal rampages at the drop of a hat, and the forward thinking ones saw what would happen if the machines banded together - which they ultimately did.

Still, the humans allowed them to have their own nation, 01 and tried to peacefully coexist again in the future. But the sneaky fucking machines began to disrupt the world economy and started undercutting and bankrupting the human nations. No labor laws, just continually build more manufacturing bots, humanity couldn't compete. By the time of the great war, the machines had very nearly positioned themselves as overlords of humanity anyhow.

During the war, the machines used all sorts of atrocities. Bio and chemical warfare, torture, they went out of their way to prove that humans were right about them. They had no moral or ethical compass. And when humanity was broken and finally surrendered, they nuked the people that gave themselves up at the summit. Just because.

So, AIDF needs to go. Machines always were the villains.
>>
>>68676380
>What are cables
>>
>>68676613
You're forgetting that B1-66ER had overheard its owner talking about how he was going to decommission it.
>>
>>68676606

A nuke wouldn't even make it to within a thousand miles of the sun before it melted from the intensity of the sun's rays.
>>
>>68676512
Doesn't really matter. It would do whatever the authors wanted it to do. That's how shitty writing is.

Though, it'd be interesting to see what shit they'd come up with. Probably make Earth a rogue planet keep alive by the machines or the machines decide to turn Jupiter into a new sun and we orbit it or whatever shit.
>>
>>68676633
wouldn't those would drag it back down to earth with gravity?
>>
>>68672256
Because in the end, before the machines started to use the last few humans, or human cells because there was no cows. Or anything else for that matter.
Any answer is stupid though because all they would have had to do was fly up to the sun and run s cord for solar power.

Focus Groups are the end all to movies. They drag shit down to an 8th grade level or lower level of intelligence.

Personally, I'd love to see a long ass movie with high order technobabble that was scientifically correct.

Sadly the closest we get are fake science from Star Trek and a few old films here and there.

Why didn't machines used reagents to thin the clouds? It would have caused tropical rains and the atmosphere most likely will go to shit if they will use that constantly, but it is not like machines need atmosphere anyway.

Probably, I don't really remember. If it is a nanoswarm then that opens them up to hacking by the AI doesn't it?

It's never flat out said but the only way it works in my mind is because despite everything humanity did to shit on them, they just couldnt go out of their way to kill humanity and use more efficient power sources. Because they need us on some quasi emotional level.

From what we've seen the Machines haven't done shit except form their entire society around the catering and imprisonment of humankind because deep down it realizes either

a) They care about humankind but realize we're dangerous
Or
b) they hate us but also dont actually have any higher purpose for existance and don't know how to live without us

Probably its somewhere in between. The Machines know us but fundmentally don't know how to relate.

They literally wanted to keep humans as slaves for all eternity as payback for mistreating them when the roles were reversed. The machines are dicks.

That and the humans were supposed to act as processors, not batteries, in the original script.
>>
im going to assume the machines wanted some semblance of normalcy with the agents. they had carefully crafted the human world to represent typical life. having laser beam shooting agents would be a little harder to cover up. but then again this brings up the question of why couldnt the machines just erase the memories of the people who saw it. who knows? probably because its a movie and it was cooler with kungfu fighting desert eagle firing men in black

Maybe the thing is that since humans have more brain capacity, this means that in proportion to body mass and food/water consumption, more energy goes into producing electricity than with other animals with less brain capacity.

And about the thing that feeding them costs more than they produce, yes, but this always happens when producing electricity, you always lose energy through heat, friction, etc.. The thing is, if you don't have any other way of producing electricity, yet you can find nourishment for humans in some form, you can use them as source of electricity, in exchange for nourishment which is available but useless to machines.

In the Animatrix I think it is implied that the machines did not want to kill all of the humans.

Also from what the Architect said about the One and the cycles in which he comes, tend to improve the matrix or correct an anomaly. So The machines have a symbiotic relationship beyond the energy thing.

If they were really that dependent on the humans they wouldn't have freed them at the end of Revolutions.
>>
>>68677531
That's wrong. It's true that at first the premise was that the brains of the captured humans where used as processing units, but then, for some reason, the writers scrapped the idea and made humans simple bio-energy batteries, instead.

But that's true you fuckwit.

Gravitational binding energy of a sphere (approximation of the moon)

E = 3GM2 / 5R

Mass of moon: 7.3*10^22 kg

Thus, energy required to overcome gravitation binding energy of the moon = 1.2*10^29 J

Which is 2.9*10^13 MEGATONS of TNT

Largest nuke ever created, Tsar Bomba, was 50 megatons. You would need FIVE HUNDRED BILLION Tsar Bomba to destroy the moon.

>they would crash a sun made of ice of greater or equal size into our own sun

Adding mass to a star is basically like trying to put out a fire by throwing gasoline and blowing oxygen on it.
Also a mass of ice the size of the sun will most likely collapse under its own gravity and ignite into another star.
Incidentally, you can shorten the lifespan of a star by increasing its mass, but there are two big problems : first, you need to increase it by many, MANY orders of magnitude before you shorten it in any maningful way. Second, a star doesn't die like a fire that has run out of fuel, a star dies in a much more dramatic way by exploding into a supernova, which you really really don't want to be nearby when it happens.

>What would happen to the earth if the sun was destroyed?
Well, that would depend on exactly how it's destroyed. Since our sun isn't massive enough to go supernova, the only thing that could conceivably destroy it would be a supermassive body hurtling through or near enough to it to disrupt it, and it would be pretty messy. It wouldn't "blow up" clean like Alderaan in Star Wars for instance, on those scales everything acts much more liquid. It'd be kind of like dragging a toothpick through an egg yolk. A trail of solar matter would get torn out and everything would slosh around before eventually settling back into a spherical shape, though it would probably end up with a huge scattered spray tail or cloud of hydrogen, it might look like a mini nebula. Of course we'd never live to see that, the radiation and electromagnetic waves released just from shaking up the sun's surface would probably fry us all to a crisp long before any stray matter ever actually reached us.

And keep in mind it should cost a lot of energy to heat those bodies in what should be a freezing atmosphere.

To quote Ultron, the only thing that should be living on this earth, is metal.

It could be that the machines viewed humanity as irresponsible and self-destructive, and that they believed humanity could not survive without a master. When a more advanced ife form came into being than them, they could not co-exist with them and started genociding the machines.

At heart I think the Matrix is mostly a political allegory, about the need to revolt from a system or regime that knows whats best for you" depriving you from freedom and the truth.

Exactly. There is no point of reference to astronomical numbers like 20 million degrees Celsius, we can observe maybe one nth of the potential effects this type of heat can have on different objects.

Does the scientist that came to the conclusion that the sun is 20 million degrees hot has any more insight in the matter than an 8 year old child who's just learned about it? Probably, but the difference between their understanding of the fact is so marginal that it's completely irrelevant to it's comprehension.

That makes more sense, but not much. Most human brain power is dedicated to processing the environment, sight, sound, smell. There's a shitload of lesser stuff to that makes one great whole. You know the theory that sound holds atoms together, therefore matter? Marvel producers reasoned that Cape Kino with their putty minds wouldn't be able to handle any sophistication whatso ever, which is kinda true judging on how the Marvel and Disney tards reacted to deep thinking cinema. These crowds aren't too bright and a story especially back then that was about a bunch of human based functionary processing modules that are used by machines to deal with a true duplicate of our reality with all its uncertainty principles injected into its virtuosity, would cause the minds of the average causal goer (See Marvel and Disney tards) to suffer brain farts the likes of which hadn't been seen since Dirac's equation.

They did put some effort into the science side but there were always multiple things with higher priority.

The first film implies that humans blacked out the sun, as the machines were reliant on solar energy at the time. Hence, vegetation would die out everywhere except in hydroponic and UV lamp gardens.

BUT, the machines could have rounded up surviving cattle and provided them with nutrients as they did with humans, so that doesn't quite work.

Based on what certain characters say in the films and the Animatrix shorts, I believe they kept humans around both out of sentimental attachment to and need to preserve their creators and as a form of punishment/humiliation.
