How?
It's a boring CGI shitfest.
I mean I like it cause it's pretty funny but to call it a better Martial Arts movies is just laughable.

The Raid Too

The sequel had too much drama weighing it down. The first one just got rid of all that boring plot stuff.

Even with that you still all the superior action sequences like that big fight in the mud.

It's kind of irrelevant, desu. Speaking in the most pretentious way, martial arts films are incredibly formalist. Characters and plot are largely unimportant. As much as I enjoy watching Jackie and Sammo interact with each other, the comedy in their films comes out best in the action scenes. Bruce Lee was a very charismatic guy, but it's what he brings to the fight choreography (including charisma) that makes his films memorable. Even the recurring themes directors like Chang Cheh (vengeance, brotherhood) and Lau Kar-Leung (discipline, mercy, honor) is best illustrated in the fight scenes.
So yeah it would seem like a good idea to cut out the plot and convey all you need to convey in the action scenes, but having the plot as window dressing around the action doesn't in any way effect the action scenes. Martial arts filmmakers have been doing the same shit forever. When it came to the action, Raid 2 was superior, despite the sprawling and often messy plot that surrounded those scenes.

This and its sequel are absolute garbage.
If you want a good martial arts flick, just watch Man of Tai Chi

I can name dozens of films better than this.

It's more then I can explain to you, and really since Martial Arts movie have used wires, it's the natural progress and pinnacle of martial arts movie.
it's sorta post-modern martial arts, both in the tone and the content. it's made for a western culture is also a good reason.
Doesn't just reference and copy frame for frame a lot of classic movies from both east and west but also includes a good plot.
It's hard to explain the whole thing. It's not just a memelord movie that does campy parodies like Scarey Movie but actual homages to some of the greats into something that goes beyond parody, while still being campy.
that's something you don't really see happen, ever.
