Not that one

If you think it's bad, that's only because you don't understand it, nor the show as a whole for that matter

Divorced Barney and Robin in the first 5 minutes then didn't mention it again after the entire season was about their wedding

Killed off the mother then after about 2 minutes didn't mention after again

Put Ted and Robin together in the last 5 minutes after saying from the begining they weren't gonna to the Ross and Rachel thing with them

The last few seasons, and the really the whole show, was nullified

>>
Why are all these shows so great but they can never end them on a good note?
>>
Millennium's ending was pretty bad. Though it's a bit understandable because it got cancelled, but it didn't have to include shit like Peter finally doing a 360 and helping Frank before getting assassinated OFF SCREEN, Emma doing a 360 herself to join the loominarty, and Frank just walking away with his daughter like "i'll try stopping the loominarty later".
>>
>>68614336
Good endings in general are hard to pull off, especially in series. A lot of the time the story loses its momentum and then they just try to pick up and stick the pieces together.

Doggett got fucked in the end.

He's the guy that showed up and made the show watchable the last two seasons and they pushed him aside to focus on the lazy selfish asshole that he replaced.

Dude, fuck that. I thought that was a great ending... a sad ending, but not bad.

>>68618965

Objectively the right answer any way you spin it.

Instead of ending the show, the writers literally just wrote a shitty episode for the entirely different show that they wished they were writing the whole time. Unbelievable.

I'm unsure whether the American Life on Mars has the worst ending ever, or the best ending ever.

As for recent ones, I'd honestly feel tempted to go with Downton Abbey. It's definitely Downton Abbey if you go by the strict season finale rationale, ignoring the christmas special. Even with the Christmas special they focused way too much on the stuck up heiress getting another happy ending rather than focusing on some of the other characters.

Voyager was pretty bad too.

>Ending comes out of nowhere like any other episode

>Get back to Earth in the last five minutes and cut to credits with no epilogue

I mean it wasn't a great show to begin with but that ending really made the whole thing feel like a big waste of time

Battlestars had lots of terrible elements (Ghostbuck still fills me with rage) but it was ultimately very true to its themes and message throughout the series, that ultimately it's all a big we will repeat over and over, never learning anything, until the end of time.

In the American version, I don't remember everything, but he was, quite literally, on Mars, and his simulation kept malfunctioning.
>>
BSG.
>>
>>68622167

I feel like it was an example of the writers hating the show they were writing for.
>>
>>68622216
Dude's actually in a sci-fi future on a trip to Mars in cryostasis or something, and while they're sleeping they're given adventures by a computer feeding things into their brain, to stimulate it. Except for him the computer glitched out, so instead of being a cop from one historical setting, he was given the memories of a cop from one historical setting while put in another historical setting, causing the shenanigans.

The Brit version gets existential-ish "if I don't feel anything is it real?", the American one gets "lol sci-fi malfunction because of the title!". But at the same time, it's just so far out there that I can't decide whether it's bad or so bad it's great.
>>
Is it cheating to say the final season of Boardwalk Empire? So many stupid things happening and characters dying in stupid ways just to try and make sure every story is resolved.

However, they did change history in order the most cliched gangster film ending possible for the final episode.

To be fair it makes sense if you think of it as Ted being his usual annoying self and spending all that time telling all these stories just to convince his kids that he totally isn't just randomly hooking up with Aunt Robin, but they've got history, and he's totally not betraying their mom and whatever, looking for their approval by telling them all about how he and Robin had a thing for so long.
>>
>>68622318
i remember why i hated the last 3 seasons of xfiles holy fuck only just recently rewatched.

Fuck Duchovny
>>
>>68613144
That had to be some of the worst writing I've ever seen. All the characters had to lose any and all character development just so they could be shoehorned in to an ending written 7 years ago. Plus, having a season devoted to a wedding when you know that you have to both end the marriage and have Robin get with Ted was a horrible decision. Just have the finale be the final season. It's not like there wasn't enough material there for it.
>>
>>68613144

Am I the only one that thought HIMYM was a never a good show to begin with? All the jokes were super corny and lame, as well was the general show vibe. And the characters were too caricature-ish to even be remotely relateable. I thought it was a 6/10 show at best, something to pass the time if there is literally nothing else on.
>>
>>68622506
there were a couple good episodes after mulder left. the episode with the dream-killer and doggett was scared to go to sleep was really good, classic x files stuff.

95% of was shit though

>>68622554
i don't know why they just didn't end it with season 7 when mulder gets abducted. it's the perfect ending. they really fucked it all up.

True Blood's ending.

Was it re-written at the last moment or something?

Lots of hints Bill is becoming human, but nothing comes of it. Instead he decides to die needlessly and in a way that covers the woman he loves in his bloody goo.
>>
>>68620179
I read a really interesting interview with the guy who played Leonard. Imagine being an unknown actor and you get cast in the pivotal moment of a series finale of a huge tv show
>>
Stargate Atlantis' finale is such a fucking let-down. It's especially apparent because the penultimate alternate-reality-Las Vegas-PI episode that they had to write just to explain why they have to get back to Earth so quickly actually ended up being better, with a way more compelling ending than Atlantis looking out on the golden gate bridge.
>>
>>68620179
that wasn't the ending.

How?

>>
>>68622742
Well if we look at the directing and writing David Chase was trying to show Tony died.
>>
>>68622742

I've always found deliberate vague non-specific endings to be a fucking cop out, whether in films or TV Series.

It's one thing not to spell out exactly what happened and let the viewer piece it together; It's another thing entirely to write something where it could be one of a few things with the writing done to make any interpretation as right as another.

It's not "smart", it's a lazy insult to the audience by writers who are too scared to give a specific conclusion.
>>
>>68622842
i liked the last few minutes of walt walking through the meth lab, jesse driving away, the camera zooming out. that was well done and a nice send off

LOST was such a terrlble show. How people got so into it while it aired is beyond me. Boring, tired, and dragged out af. Just some terrible people stuck on an island, exploring their laughable pasts with mediocre acting.

Also, it was like 24 eps a season. Fuck off.

>>
I agree with >>68622842 mainly because it was the cheap safe ending. "He saved jessie for the people who still like the monster known as walter, and he died for the people who wanted him dead."

>>68622892
A good ending would be Walter getting truly fucked, not getting money for his family, jessie probably blowing his braims out. I mean the guy was a monster.
>>

>>68622589
I always thought it was really well written, but maybe I was just confusing good writing with continuity nods.
>>
>>68613094

I always thought Dexter shoulda ended with him being executed, like the guy in Strangers by Camus. And perhaps before his public execution, some ppl, victims of the killers he killed, would visit him and thank him for what he did. Then, quite indifferently and apathetically, Dexter would accept the calamity of his death and ends with his execution.
>>
>>68623014
It was fucking terrible.
>>
>>68613089
>Dexter
>>
>>68623037
>with continuity nods.

Half the time they didn't even do continuity nods though, they invented new shit and had the characters nod towards that, to make the show seem less shallow.

>yo remember -insert thing here-

i used to like it, but six feet under's montage ending is just pure emotional manipulation. the last 2 seasons of the show were fucking awful, but the last 10 minutes of the series finale tricks you into thinking it was all worth watching.

Unfortunately it really makes the love he had for the mother seem mostly bullshit and the mother as just an incubator for the kids he wanted but that Robin didn't wanna birth.

Mind you he was only able to be and stay happy with the Mother because Robin was barely around since she was traveling around the world and shit as part of her job and need to travel, Victoria was 100% right that Robin needed to be cut out.

And then he falls right back into it with Robin even after all these years and the mother is more a footnote in the story than the point.

Overall, the story wasn't how Ted met the mother, it's how Ted got through life to wind up with Robin cause it was all worth it.

The series is going to have a finale as sterile as every episode that preceded it. And then live on in endless repeats for decades to come.

Tina put so many Mad Men references in 30 Rock. It was even funnier because both series were airing at the same time. Even in the same week!

they literally show God as an entity in the first season, with the Six thats not Caprica Six and Gaius praying.

after that nothing in the ending should have been a surprise

Don't worry lad, I was only baiting for (You)s which I failed to do.

I actually think the ending to Star Trek: The Next Generation is probably one of, if not the, best endings to a long running television series.
>>
>>68628721
Sheldon discovers a way to harness zero-point energy, his roommate gets jealous or some other petty shit and messes with the notes, then the indian guy spills some curry on it, after which the engineer-guy finds the notes and effectively (inadvertently) makes a doomsday device.
Then Penny presses the red button on it.
>>
>>68628834
I think for a series finale to be truly bad, it has to have people like the show.
Nobody gave a fuck about Two and a Half Men after Sheen got canned.

I agree with both these points, I get where Chase is coming from but yeah, it would have been nice if he had given us at least SOME sort of fucking conclusion. Walt's appearance and final send off were the only decent part of that episode. Seriously more movies and shows need an ending where the character is just a shadow of his former self.

What is generally considered the canonical ending to the Simpsons? Before the Zombies era takes over.

Is it the episode with Frank Grimes?
>>
>>68622931
Okay, so... I'm sure you're baiting, but I can understand how someone could hold this opinion.

The last five or so minutes overshadow anything else that happened in the entire episode -- hell, they overshadow much of the last season and maybe even the series. It's such a great ending, but it also doesn't need any of the series to preclude it.
>>
>>68618965

>>68629774

They dropped it with/after the Carver shit and dropped it some more when they relocated, final season actually became somewhat decent again
>>
>>68630616
Its strange but the best episode of its entire run was in the final season with the mirror universe.

That just goes to show how shit your series is when the parallel universe one was way more interesting.
>>
>>68630387

Tried to do the HBO thing of lots of character arcs going on at once but suffered by some characters being uninteresting and past S2 they had to resort to increasingly convoluted measures to keep some characters in the show.

A lot of the worst things about the show were what they changed from history.

For example the real Nucky got tax evasioned and lived a long life once he was released.
>>
>>68613110
The last three seasons of that show were bad.

Damon Lindelof is a cunt basically. He promised us that everything in the show had a scientific explanation - EVERYTHING. He was ADAMANT about it.

Then they get a few seasons in and "fuck it! Fuck you! It's magic! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

I hated Ted so much because he turned from a wide eyed goofy romantic to a cynical wife stealing asshole in just a few seasons, and he bitched for years about being left at the altar, then steals Victoria from the altar, and dumps her because victoria wants him to stop hanging out with the girl he cheated on her with way back.

I really wanted to like that show but i couldn't force myself to keep watching it. It just ended up with relationship dramas from conflicts that didn't need to happen but was caused for the sake of plot. I really hate to see good actors and settings being wasted because the writers devolve into soap operas after a season or two.

>>68631030
Yeah no fucking shit retard. It was always about a man trying to do the best for his family regardless of the personal cost. That's the whole plot of the show. A guy who had ended up with a life he hated tried to take control of it and ended up doing a lot of terrible things, but with the goal of doing right by his family.

Go back to tumblr if you think that's a terrible thing. And it's not a power fantasy in the sense that he lost control and got carried away and ruining everything for himself and the people he loved. It's just as much about him failing his family when he had good intentions. Because good intentions don't always mean good results.
>>
>>68631206
Very much so, yes.

There are many who would consider the last few seasons to be the best. Its ending is my favorite ending of any series I've ever seen, and I've seen shows with lauded endings like Six Feet Under and Blackadder. It's perfect.
