That isn't lazy filmmaking. That's lazy memesters. There are 2 different scenes that set up the compressor before that payoff. She says Plutt installed a fuel compressor when after he stole the plane or whatever. She says she thinks the compressor is probably useless, could effect the hyperdrive, the "bypasses" it by just ripping it out. It's a joke, and if you're not a desperate contrarian autist it plays pretty well.
Not to mention the obvious metaphor at work. She's ripping out the shit that had been needlessly added by it's previous owner, that was crippling it.
