Nah, it's essentially nonsensical sci fi with a meandering plot that barely touches a coherent philosophical dilemma about the self.

It's basically the flick for underage retards who love smoking weed and some meme time travel nonsense that somehow seems deep to them. The people who like this movie are underage or mentally stunted and completely retarded. The movie is liked by the same people who like nightmare before christmas and that early 2000's goth era that was pretty cancerous.

Watch this movie again and not as your 12 year old self, its garbage.

People like it for all the wrong reasons, even the aesthetic comes off as pathetic and how hard it tries to convey a deep message. It's like a 13 year old who just read a couple Kierkegaard books wrote a script on 2 hits of acid and had thought processes like "woah like wouldnt it be cool if a rabbit appeared in the mirror and then the guy went back in time?....woah" It's really shit and totally undeserving of it's praise.

>>
>>68248711

Fight Club is very deep actually.

Just because one grows out of one's rebellious nature during their twenties doesnt mean that the non-consumerism and anti-establishment themes arent valid.

>your life is ending one second at the time

As to Donnie Darko, you missed the entire point, "mr. I NEED DEPTH", because the theme of DD isnt HURR DURR time travel, its about the existential crisis a suburban teenager feels with the weight of the world on his shoulders. This feeling is normal in alot of smart young men and usually fades away during the twenties.

May I suggest you watch something less challengin "Avenger", or "Iron-man"? Both great quippy and hip movies.
>>
>>68248766
>film knowledge

Nigga film is the most pedestrian "artform" your knowledge doesn't mean shit, it's easily consumable media for fucking plebs, always has been and always will be

Trying to make deep and meaningful "cinema" is like trying to make an intelligent piece of literature with only 5 pages

You're only scratching the surface my simple nigga

they might be valid, but they're not deep

nothing was deep about the movie, it was pessimistic bro culture "im 2 smart 4 u" adolescent juvenile edgy humor pretending to be philosophy

theres literally nothing meaningful to glimpse from the film, its an exercise in masturbation
>>
>>68248766
I've been around the world and I still really like it for what it is. I don't necessarily find it as deep as I used to but time travel shit is always awesome especially when you throw it into a dark setting- to me at least.
>>
>>68248904
not him but

>greentexing

+ a reaction gif isn't a compelling argument
>>
>>68248875
I'm in med school buddy, film is just an extension of yourself and your ability to understand it and literature is pretty vital and easy as well, it only seems complex because you and the majority only digest entry level garbage so to you it may not seem "deep". There are a lot of films out there, complex ones at that, try watching more than 10 "cult classics" then come back to me, it's not like you have anything better to do you NEET.
>>
>>68248970
Traveling around the world does not mean you have magically become more intelligent. You are probably dumb as shit but just saved up cash to go to some places in the world. Why anyone thinks that traveling somewhere gives them some meaningful life experiences that make them more intelligent is beyond me. Seriously, you're just simple as shit, so the "themes" in Donnie Darko seem neat to you. Nothing wrong with that.

>>
>>68248933

Then youre definiton of "deep" is misplaced.

Edgy is not deep.
>>
>>68249109
Didn't mean to imply that, but you said 'life experience' should make someone see the film as infantile garbage, which isn't true in my case and probably not in most cases either I'd think. You can say I'm dumb or whatever, didn't save up cash or anything, I'm a survivalist, also travel to really dodgy areas in places most people haven't been and then write about/ take pictures. I just don't see the need to make it a 'You're stupid/ simple/ unexperienced if you enjoy this film' thing. You probably just have a high standard for movies which doesn't necessarily correlate with your intelligence at all.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EhQd4nugps
>>
>>68249213
So you just admitted you have low standards and thus capitulated that Donnie darko is pretty shit. Good job man.

>it was pessimistic bro culture

Thats life son. The red pill is a hard truth to swallow. Its actually a very meaningful film, which shows that anarchy and repetitive order both drive men insane.

Its like you need it spelled out for you.
>>
>>68249242

You dont get the film. Its ok, I can see how it would appear inferior in quality, if the most blatant themes and ideas are totally missed, or wilfully ignored.
>>
>>68249349
The themes aren't at all conveyed in a deep or meaningful way. It's entry level existentialism with a teenage twist. It's fucking garbage and you defending it shows just how much of a mongoloid you are. Seriously man read something, get some education, go beyond 8th grade philosophy.
>>
>>68249242
When I refer to standards, I don't mean it to come across in a simplistic high= high-quality low= low quality way, when I say high standards I basically mean complicated standards. Like the film has to meet x y and z criteria and has to be sufficiently deep and cerebral to be good.

Anyway we can just agree to disagree. Donnie Darko is fucking awesome
>>
>>68249400

So I read:

>NO YOURE WRONG, IM RIGHT
>AD HOMINEM
>MORE AD HOMINEMS

No argument found.
>>
>>68249462
There really isn't anything to discuss about the film, it isn't inherently complex, it's literally entry level existentialism with a teenage twist, and a time travel plot that is a chore to get through.
>>
>>68247976
Exactly. The only other possibility could be The Killing Moon
>>
>>68249499

To you. You dont get it.
>>
>>68249603
Ah the "you don't get it" argument, I mean you must be seriously stupid to use that in relation to some infantile garbage like Donnie darko, i mean seriously your like a joke that writes itself.
