Can we get some sort of James Bond thread going? I realise it isn't the most popular franchise on here but there's gotta be some fans here up for discussion about the next few films.

I'll start by posting my top 3 bond films and hopes for next Bond actor:
>casino royale
>from russia with love
>the living daylights

>Michael Fassbender, would also like to see Kenneth Branagh as a villain for some reason

My top 3:
The Living Daylights
Licence to Kill
On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Also I don't want there to be any more 007 films, Barbara and Michael have done enough damage. Of course, they will anyway because it's a cash cow franchise

Alright well here's a question I was wondering about the other day.

Is Goldeneye inordinately praised due to the N64 game and the "sweet spot" of nostalgia for our generation? I watched it again the other day and felt it genuinely held up. I feel Brosnan is also underrated, possibly due to how shitty his later movies were.
>>
>>68223028
Just imagine daisy as some new intern at mi6 that's totally head over heels for bond but he finds her annoying.

Then Moneypenny assigns her as his temporary assistant just to spite him
>>
>>68223154
Half of this is correct. The N64 game definitely helped give Goldeneye its gold status although still the movie itself has some really excellent action scenes, as well as Sean Bean's presence, the story of betrayal I really like, the cradle of course is full on amazing.

It definitely is one of those classic 90's movies.
>>
>>68222922
would watch/10
>>
>>68223154
Since most of the general public (not including a fair few people on here) didn't play the N64 game I think it's probably down to just it being a nice, fun Bond movie with cool characters. Until Casino Royale Bond movies were rarely huge with the critics but usually got a lot of love with fans.
>>
>>68223154
What makes it so good is that it's is based a on a screenplay originally intended for Timothy Dalton, so it has a darkness to it that the later Brosnan Bonds don't possess. GoldenEye is lightening in a bottle, a perfect amalgam of Serious Bond and Campy Bond.
>>
The franchise is outdated. New-age progressives will never allow a movie about a white man banging chicks and distributing white imperialism one exotic location at a time to be made these days.

You'll get your superhacker conspiracy against an oh so irrelevant operative storyline and you'll love it.
>>
Why is the Mission: Impossible franchise so much better in literally every regard?
>>
>>68223341
I made the thread and even I have to agree that MI 3, Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation were way more enjoyable than the last 3 bond films which I didn't really get on with.
>>
>>68223341
I love bond and yeah, casino Royale is great but over all if it's Brosnan and Craig's 8 vs the MI's 5 current the cruise wins

I've enjoyed all the Craig movies. I thought Spectre was pretty dope especially the scene where their doing the illerminati shit in that mansion and Batista fucks that dudes eyes and breaks his neck. I also liked the song they used for it.

Was probably the most talented actor to play James Bond and had the darkest films, also handsome as fook.

A lot of people still consider it one of the top Bond films.

It doesnt pretend to be completely serious like the Craig films, instead taking the route of a fun action film with some serious elements.

Also, it helped establish that Bond films could survive in modern times.

>An outline treatment by Michael G. Wilson and Alfonse Ruggiero was completed in May, 1990, and, although it was not a full script, it contained a detailed outline story, with descriptions of locations, key characters and major plot concepts. As envisaged in 1990, Dalton’s third would-be Bond movie would have entailed the Bond series continuing to move in the notably realistic direction set out in Licence to Kill, but also brimming with ambitious hi-tech concepts.

>Wilson and Ruggiero penned an outline which used robotic designs, microchips and advanced electronic apparatus to provide the film with a markedly scientific backdrop. At the beginning of the treatment there was an intriguing preface saying that the ‘robotic devices’ referred to in the outline were ‘complex and exotic machines designed for specific tasks’ and they would be designed ‘especially for the film for maximum and dramatic and visual impact’.

>The opening sequence was set in a chemical weapons laboratory in Scotland, and involved technicians performing tests with robotic devices. Suddenly, one of the robotic machines would run amok and the building would explode. After a ‘bitter debate’ in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister would be seen being questioned by MPs about the explosion, and he would assure the House that the ‘full resources’ of the government were being used to investigate the incident.
>>
>>68232626
>Enter 007, who, in the treatment, is summoned to MI6’s HQ and to M’s office for the traditional briefing about his mission. There followed a storyline which took Bond to Hong Kong, Japan and mainland China, with the main villain being Sir Henry Lee Ching, described in the treatment as ‘a brilliant and handsome thirty year old British-Chinese entrepreneur’ who, in the traditional Bond sense, is a dab hand at science and electronic circuits, and is also nicely demented. Sir Henry has a habit of arranging ‘accidents’ at nuclear plants, and demonstrates this by having a robotic device run amok at a Chinese atomic plant in Nanking.

>The main point to Wilson and Ruggiero’s treatment for Bond 17 was that Sir Henry wanted Britain to withdraw from Hong Kong (remember, this was 1990, some years before the UK actually did hand over the colony). With his expertise in electronics, Sir Henry threatened to unleash a computer virus that would paralyse every military and commercial unit in the world.

>The climax of the treatment involved James Bond being led to Sir Henry’s base of operations through the sewer system under Hong Kong, with 007 gaining access to the building via a waste-pipe. There followed a classic confrontation between Bond and Sir Henry, with the latter eventually killed when 007 turns a welding torch in his face!

>Whether this treatment for Dalton’s third Bond movie sowed some of the seeds for later ideas for the Pierce Brosnan films is difficult to say, but the 1990/91 Bond 17 treatment gives us an intriguing glimpse of the film that might have been.

Sounds like some of the ideas were recycled for "Tomorrow never dies"

The Fass would be the perfect choice.

Can someone convince me that Casino Royale is not the best Bond movie? Are the Sean Connery ones better?
>>
I like Fassbender, but he's on the edge of too old. If they're gonna go with him, they need to cast him, like, tomorrow to hit the November release of 2018.

He's just turned 39. I could be real happy with the Fassbender pick if he limited himself to only doing no more than 3 or 4. And he'd have to commit to a 2 year or 3 year release cycle.

The old, campy Roger Moore Bond just won't work in today's market.
>>
>>68233332
Eh, you say that while folks like Liam Neeson or Denzel Washington still play aging bad asses.

I feel if Fassbender keeps fit and ages well, he could do it into his early to mid 50s at least.
Which would mean 3-4 movies which seems to be the pattern for Bond actors now.

I never played the game and its still one of my favourite Bond films. It has quite a unique 90's tone to it that feels very nostalgic, yet is also gritty and realistic.

Whilst the soundtrack is dated, I also find it strangely likeable and catchy, and the Bond girls are to die for. Boris is good comic relief, and Sean Bean is absolutely a memorable villain (for England James).
