Flavor Flav had a show where several women competed for his love. One of the "losers" was New York who was entertaining enough that they gave her a spin-off where several men competed for her love. If that sounds insane two of the losers from I Love New York ended up with their own spin-off.

They made I Love the New Millennium in 2008 and they did talk about 9/11. Not sure how they actually handled it though.
Remember when the I Love Megan show got pulled because one of the contestants murdered his girlfriend? That was about when these shows died out, although I think they were dying out regardless because there were so many of them it was over saturation.
