Will the age of historical epics ever return? Or does history bore the modern generation of movie goers?
>>
fuck off grandpa

we capeskino now
>>
>always looking for good 3+ hour movies to watch while getting baked on a day off
>always forget LoA exists and I haven't watched it yet
Well I know what I'm doing next day off
>>
>>68133132
3/4 films out every week now compared to back then, plus movies are made much cheaper now with greenscreen whilst the actors get much more money
>>
not without awful cgi crap all over and 3D slow-mo shit constantly flying into your face
>>
Exodus bombed, Gods of Egypt bombed, they are dead.
>>
Aren't we still in Hollywood's "biblical remakes" phase? Or did that die already? Anyway, Ben Hur and some other shit is coming soon, so OP pic is almost guaranteed to be bastardized at some point.

>>68133170
Capeshit is like the new zombies, it won't ever truly die but it'll fade down eventually.
>>
>>68133278
Biblical =/= historical.
>>
>>68133319

*tips*
>>
>>68133248
Yeah if they ever returned, I'd guess they'd be a mess of green-screened shit.
>>
>>68133288
Oh my god if they fucking went and remade LoA for a modern audience I'd be pissed as hell
>>
>>68133132
no, this is what you get now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz-hds0RoUA
>>
>>68133132
It will only return as a terrible rehashing of history with a forced female lead or emphasis on women even though its the men who actually have to suffer and do everything.

This is so fucking horrible that even the normies dislike it tbqh. Terrible acting, terrible casting, forced old nigger wiseman, terrible soundtrack. They should just cancel it straight and not even release it.
>>
>>68133400
Holy shit it's like a satire of modern Hollywood. Ridiculous CGI, niggers forced in and shitty direction.

>historical
> HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
>>
>>68133955

Yes it's great but it's not an "epic" like it's predecessors. It does a respectable job at conveying scope though.

Who Ridley the savour here?

Who is this cute race-traitor and where can I find more?

>historical epics
synonym for the avengers franchise
>>
>>68133132
I don't think so
It's not like they're remaking Ben-Hur or anything.
>>
>>68133132

These movies started bombing hard and there were a lot of awful ones made bro. It was a pretty trash genre to begin with.

Lawrence of Arabia is pretty good (mostly for visuals) but shit like Bridge on the River Kwai is absolute trash.
>>
>>68134721
>race-traitor

She's being fucked by a white guy though, years of consuming interracial cuckold porn has finally rotten your brain senpai.
>>

>Bridge on the River Kwai is absolute trash.

Kill yourself immediately.
>>
>>68134757
Please kil yourself for betterment of humanity.
>>
>>68134792
>>68134839

tasteless plebs always gravitate towards garbage like Bridge on the River Kwai

there are actual good historical movies, Kwai is certainly not on of them

you guys probably like period piece trash too like Atonement
>>
>>68133132
What are you talking about? We get modern epics all the time like: Dracula Untold, Hercules, 300, Clash of the Titans.
>>
>>68133132
Which Star Wars flick is this from?

I didn't know about this, what a smocking pile of crap.
>>
>>68134757
This, there were so many generic sword and sandals movies made in the late 50s-60s. You're looking at the genre through a very narrow window.

Hollywood also had its historical epic resurgence 25-15 years ago. Dances With Wolves, Braveheart, Gladiator

>>
>>68135290
did you not just praise LoA exclusively for its visuals? Atonement looks absolutely stunning
>>
>>68133288
capeshit is just the evolution of the action movie summer blockbuster. It's not going away.
>>
>>68134074
>drugz r bad cos mommy said so!!
bet your mum wished she swallowed you, faggot.
>>
>>68134757
>Bridge on the River Kwai is absolute trash.
Jeez louise
>>
>>68135654

Atonement does not look stunning at all. It looks competently shot and that it does things like feature ridiculously gratuitous, out of place shots like the famous tracking shot that is the most sickening display of showmanship and superficiality that it sticks out like an abomination.
>>
>>68134074
youre the cancer, not him
>>
>>68133132
Historical epics are the most exhausting type of film production, not to mention one of the most expensive as well. Very few directors can handle them or even have interest in them.

Besides, contemporary settings are more marketable and allow for more versatile stories, so producers aren't interested in historical projects with limited appeal. And worse, historical movies have to be anachronistic in order to fit present day social trends or else they will be shat on for not being progressive, even though the contrast with present day is the point of period pieces.
>>
>>68133278
The reason was because of WE WUZ KINGS.

I lover Exodus and Gods of Egypt was a fun movie.
