Now with Ben-Hur getting a remake, do you think they might give this a poke and remake it with a realistic runtime so people without autism can see it? I really want to get into "classic" cinema but there is no fucking way I'm sitting down and wasting 4 hours on a single movie

>remake it with a realistic runtime so people without autism can see it?

it's the other way around you autist. This movie freaked the living shit out of me as a kid. Something about the guy going mad was unsettling.
>>
>>68115130
Average human attention span is roughly 45 minutes. Most movies have a runtime of 90 minutes because that's exactly two attention span's worht of watching and you can pause it and have a snack break in between.

You literally have to be autistic to be able to sit down and watch movies in the 3-4 hour range in one sitting. I'm 90% sure this movie is chock full of pointless scenes of people walking around in the desert doing fucking nothing to pad things out.

half the point was the amazing cinematography. I'm sorry that you're too pleb to appreciate the medium.

He went mad because he was raped repeatedly in captivity. It's not shown in the film, but heavily implied. Shit like that is disturbing to kids because you know something fucking dark is going on, but you have no idea what.

Social media were a mistake

>>68116173

The downhill slide started in the previous generation. Social media has just made it glaringly and publicly obvious how bad things have gotten. Seriously, I hope you realize that the whole world can now see how weak you've become

Seriously dude, I have a low tolerance for slow-paced boring films, but this one is legitimately engrossing and entertaining. Nobody's forcing you to watch it in one sitting, nobody's forcing you to watch it at all, but you're coming off like an idiot because you don't know what you're talking about. It's a great movie on every level, one of the few that pretty much EVERYONE (who has seen it) can agree on.
>>
>>68116584
lol. The visual aspect is dynamic stuff like fights, chases, you know, parts where things actually HAPPEN. The story aspect is people talking, or things happening.

Walking through the desert is neither of these. It's just poor directing "oh I don't really know what to do next, I'm just going to pad". Nothing happens, it's not particularly interesting to watch. It's pointless and EXACTLY why this movie needs a remake to salvage whatever is contained within it.

If I wanted to look at a desert I could look at a fucking photo. I see MOVIES to see things MOVE.
>>
>>68116729
No of course not but I'm working my way through the Top 250 and this is one of the many major hurdles. I'm not gonna fall for the scam of watching the whole thing and then trying to convince myself it was a magical experience to avoid looking like a fucking chump who just sat through 3 hours of nothing and 1 hours of actual movie.

Like I said, I want to increase my appreciation for film by seeing the classics but this one desperately needs a remake to be worth my time.

I didn't really catch on to that at first either, but the guy comments about is soft skin and eyes him a bunch from the doorway and afterwards Lawrence acts the way a person who gets raped would act. It's also mentioned in some letters he wrote in real life, or at least hinted at.

>In both Seven Pillars and a 1919 letter to a military colleague,[70] Lawrence describes an episode on 20 November 1917 while reconnoitring Dera'a in disguise when he was captured by the Ottoman military, heavily beaten, and sexually abused by the local Bey and his guardsmen. The precise nature of the sexual contact is not specified. There have been allegations that the episode was an invention of Lawrence’s and (with some evidence) that the injuries were exaggerated which Lawrence claims to have suffered.[71] There is no independent testimony, but the multiple consistent reports and the absence of evidence for outright invention in Lawrence's works make the account believable to his biographers.[72] At least three of Lawrence's biographers (Malcolm Brown, John E. Mack, and Jeremy Wilson) have argued that this episode had strong psychological effects on Lawrence, which may explain some of his unconventional behaviour in later life.

>There is considerable evidence that Lawrence was a masochist. In his description of the Dera'a beating, Lawrence wrote "a delicious warmth, probably sexual, was swelling through me," and also included a detailed description of the guards' whip in a style typical of masochists' writing.[73] In later life, Lawrence arranged to pay a military colleague to administer beatings to him,[74] and to be subjected to severe formal tests of fitness and stamina.[75] John Bruce first wrote on this topic, including some other claims that were not credible, but Lawrence's biographers regard the beatings as established fact.[76]

In the movie, he's captured, stripped, and whipped. Then it pretty much just cuts away, and for the rest of the movie, he's like a different person
