Deepest I've gone is Chan-Wook, so level 3 I guess.
>>
>>68070421
I find hard to believe an actual functionable and not completely inutile human being voluntarily spent time making this chart. I savor the artifice that went into not making this look like a total facade at first sight, but the effort proves worthless through my eyes further inspection.

I really don't pay attention to director names though.

Watching some of that shit on YouTube was awful. And reading "analysis" of the films is hilarious.

One of the "avant garde masterpieces" was 45 minutes of the camera zooming in on a painting

Puting Refn, Noe, Kaufman, Park Chan Wook, Korine or Lynch on the list and not Kiarostami, Erice, Chris Marker or Béla Tarr is an insult to patrician taste.

I've touched level 4 but generally my comfort zone is level 3. That's the best place to be desu, fairly patrician but still able to relate to the normal plebs.

>>68073064
This is making feel uneasy
>>
>>68073064
Agreed. The only reason he stopped shooting on film is because filmstock became too expensive. He also moved to Canada because it's cheaper. It really speaks to the treatment of out great American artists.

Kenneth Anger wasn't very good either but he's still there, my best guess is whoever made this list didn't use much seeding knowledge to gather productive answers - the intention behind the artifact is, clearly, to provoke turmoil.

I do like Fireworks, and obviously, Temple of The Dome is a "classic", but everything else is a mixed bag. I guess his approach to form was esoteric and interesting enough to analyze but it's hard to trust in the cinema of a borderline lunatic man. I feel like trusting on Anger is letting myself fall for the facade.
>>
Why is ratboy genius missing? He is pure kino and way ahead of all the other directors in our time
>>
>>68073466
His 50s work is probably the best for that. he was in a bad place at the time and suicidal.
