She's kind of LE RANDOM XD character who was hurt by flanderization the most, Ross became weirder, but better, Joey and Monica got pretty bad, while Phoebe just turned into a mean cunt who seemed to hate everyone around her
Rankings as actual friends, not who's a best character:
1) Chandler - total bro, helped Joey with rent and work for years
2) Monica - basically a mom to everyone, fed people for years too
3)Ross - kind of a dick, but usually tried to help people with advice or whatever he can
4) Joey
5)Rachel - didn't do anything actively bad, just kind of annoying, borrowed stuff from Monica and lost it all the time
8) Phoebe - never did anything good for anybody, lived on the other side of town and never seemed to care about relationship with anyone in the group, pretty much hated all of them in later seasons

If you look at Kudrow's career, she loves to play unlikable, self-absorbed characters (and she's great at it, she's the best all-around comedic actor out of them all imo), so that was probably writers trying to play to her strengths.
