Depends on what you're planning to do. Directors and producers have to be socially skilled to some degree. The instructor asked everyone for their favorite movies; I said 2001 because it was a decent balance between pretentious and mainstream. Everyone else said shit like The Hangover and Stepbrothers, and the absolute best responses besides the 20 stoners spouting the first Sandler flick which came to mind were The Wolf of Wall Street and Luhrmann's Gatsby.
The plebs absolutely abhorred Unforgiven and The Searchers, only liked The Shining because of DUDE JOHNNY LMAO and the following behind it, similar sentiments with The Godfather and Goodellas.

Pirate some editing software and practice man. Go to websites like hitrecord that have footage you can cut together.
Watch films. Put them into the editing software and for every cut you put in the same cut. Then divide all the shots into tracks, all close ups on one track, totals on a other track, and so on. Study them, why go from this to that?
There is literally nothing stopping you from learning filmmaking. If you feel like editing is something you could do, go to a film school, or don't. Maybe see if someone is shooting anything in your city and is desperate for an editor? Whatever you feel like man, just don't sit there and do nothing.
