Explain to me why I should put any faith in that when a film called Godzilla had precious few Godzilla scenes.

The film's decision to focus on family drama and human dilemmas was a huge mistake. Any human stuff should have been focused solely on the Monarch organization and not the twins from Age of Ultron

When I pay to see a Godzilla movie, I pay to see incredible miniature sets destroyed by giant monsters who are fighting. Could you imagine how cool it would have been if the producers had ever seen a Godzilla movie?

FFS they didn't even show the Las Vegas fight, you had to see it between characters playing on a tv in the background

It wasn't even fun or clever, it was just "haha oh man you waited to see the Godzilla movie, FUCK YOU lol XDDDD"
>>
>>68011486
If brian cranston stayed alive for the entire duration this movie would have been good.

Being mad that the camera is following a small assortment of human characters around, as they weave into and out of the monster/monsters is fucking bizarre.

The original Godzilla pales in comparison to its sequels and the kaiju culture it built up around it. Godzilla movies were schlock films whether you like it or not where they had men in rubber suits fighting each other

yeah, some had environmental messages and commentary on power and authority or whatever, but please don't make the series out to be deep and intelligent

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack pretty much sums up the fundamentals of the series

Giant fucking monsters man

And this movie had so little to do with that. I wanted a giant monster action movie. I loved Pacific Rim because it actually included what people wanted to see: fighting robots fighting kaiju.

If you liked the "ratio" they struck, then did the characters stay with you? Can you even tell me Bryan Cranston's character's name without looking it up?

>>
>>68013770
tension and cockteasing the audience are different things. people wanted to see godzilla fight the mutos. there could have been a lot of great small fights to build up that tension. Maybe having to fight each one one-on-one to show the audience the skills and limitations of each monster and then when godzilla has to fight both at the end, you really feel the tension of him fighting for survival and dominance or whatever, knowing he's outmatched

then maybe monarch needs to step in with their radiaton or secret technology or something to tilt the odds in godzilla's favor. maybe they know that godzilla can never be fully controlled but they can do what they can to ensure he can be guided and enhanced to fight these monsters that definitely cannot be guided or whatever
>>

>>
>>68011985
The movie doesn't insult your intelligence. You KNOW who Godzilla is, he's been one of the biggest film icons of the past 60 years. Everyone in the world knows who Godzilla is.

They made a point of setting up the Muto and human characters, although I wish they had picked better actors because ATJ was a fucking piece of wood in this movie.

The only time I cringed during this movie was when Godzilla was swimming in formation with the US Navy.
>>
>>68013906
I would agree, that they gone a bit too far with the slow build up and teasing and that the protagonist couldnt really carry the movie. But, the fights were really well executed. I was absolutely excited in the cinema. The sense of height/weight, the music, the sounds,... top monster fighting action
>>
>>68014054
you seem to have forgotten the one half of the movie involving the Ultron twins and Bryan Cranston and their family drama. also the fact that the government was desperately trying to keep Godzilla covered up. just embrace that shit.

jesus christ what a fucking snoozefest. I literally tried to watch it three times in a row but ended up falling sleep during the first hour

Its a mystery for me how they could create a movie so uninteresting in every level. My friends tried to watch it as a group while drunk but even then they ended up just shutting down the movie and playing cards instead. What a fucking lame-ass borefest
>>
>>68014221
Based Miller made 2 hours of car chases and it worked
>>
The director said that Close Encounters was a huge inspiration for the movie and that he "grew up watching Spielberg movies, what they did so well — as well as having epic, fantastic spectacle — they made the characters feel real and human. We were trying to do the same thing here."

Did any of the human characters appeal to you? Can you name a single one of the human characters? Why would they try to turn a series about fighting monsters into a human drama?
>>
I didn't care much for the MUTO's design and Aaron's character was not interesting in the slightest.
>>
I loved almost every second. I don't remember the last time a big summer blockbuster was such an audio-visual experience, the dialogue was basically irrelevant to the visuals, sound design and the score. It felt genuinely cinematic in a way I wasn't expecting a 150 million dollar summer movie to be.

I didn't even mind the lead, he was fine for what they needed him to be.

That's not my only experience with the Toho Godzilla films, but this is the first one in the reboot. It's supposed to focus on a relatable human component, like the original Godzilla. The monster fights were great in this movie, so I don't know what anyone is complaining about. It just needed more Cranston/less soldier guy
>>
>>68014300
Based Cranston was great, Jason Bourne CIA guy and Japanese scientist were kinda cliche but did what they were expected to do. It would be nice if they expanded upon them a little bit

The problem was most of the human scenes were anchored to Kick Ass and he is a terrible actor.

>>68014522
Definitely. How talked about how some scenes could remain nearly the same but have much more resonance simply by changing the character. Yeah, the older ones focus on humans, but how is that supposed to invalidate the complaints about the human side of THIS particular movie being boring shit and the monster aspect being a cock tease until the very end?

Also, if you want to promote your movie to wide audiences, most of whom likely never saw a Godzilla movie in their lives from beginning to end (or maybe they did but it was one of the shittier ones because those are more famous, or the 1998 one because it was distributed all over the world), you can't expect your viewers to bow down to the argument that "it's like those old ones so you shouldn't complain about it."

Especially when a lot of the Toho movies' human plots are boring or outright garbage themselves.

You can't please the public. Either you make a bleak-ish movie in spirit with the original or you go ahead and make Final Wars Murrica edition. In the end no one is gonna be happy.
I loved the new one and found the human story in it more interesting than like 90% of the Jap movies I've seen.
>>
>>68018074
>inb4 fuck yeah all of them should be like Final Wars

No. FW was a nice attempt at trying out something cool, but ultimately the movie is a poor, tryhard, misguided mess and a disappointing 50th anniversary event. G'14 was a step in the right direction.
>>
>>68017038
Which is a noble intention, except didn't they put the franchise on a decade long hiatus in the first place because the films only appealed to the Godzilla autists but barely anyone else?

It's not that they should have tried to please everyone, because that's impossible, but surely there's got to be some workable middle-point between the two extremes >>68018074 mentions. One which allows for better monster and human plots, and doesn't require fans to bust out the same "oh it's kinda-sorta like the shit we got before" excuses when faced with legit complaints. Hopefully the sequels will be more successful in reaching that point.

Why would these issues interest the target market (China)?
>>

The wall's so big it knocks Earth slightly out of orbit, straight into the path of an oncoming asteroid. This leads to a Gorath remake.

That was one of the things with the new one: I can't think of what those classic foes would look like in that universe. I'm looking forward to seeing them try to make sense of them in sequel though.

Imagine if in Jurassic Park, when the T-rex escapes his pen, and they decide to cut right after. And then cut to destroyed cars

That's exactly how it was in Godzilla

Anyway it was a cool movie, but I can understand how the cock tease made everyone angry. Hopefully Edwards will learn from this mistake and we will have a awesome Godzilla 2 and Godzilla vs Kong

it happenned in the Godzilla Kingdom of monsters comic
Was pretty hilarious

It was a 4/5.

There was literally nothing wrong with the ratio of Godzilla. Like every scene past the initial hatching at the monarch station involves the mutos or godzilla in some way. How fucking autistic can you be.

>>68022692
b-but the movie is called GODZILLA not MUTOs how can you have only 10 minutes of the title character waaaaaah

Good thing all we have to do is WAIT UNTIL FUCKING 2019

Could they seriously not replace the original director?

This.

I saw like the first 20-30 mins on theatres but the sound totally fucked up and blasted after that. We got free tickets but didn't come back to finish it since it went down hill after Cranston died IMO.

Its cheesy but watchable, worth the price of admission. But I wouldn't re-see it

All day. Erry day.

Garbage forgettable flick. It makes sense that it's another blockbuster that is being "vindicated" by the new hordes of tourists coming here from Bvs and SJW Wars. That's the extent of their film experience.
Enjoy your board

U mad is more like 08 new friend.

I downloaded this just to watch the fight scenes and just to see how little monster action was in the movie.

The final fight was terribly cut with only one single long shot of Godzilla breathing down the muto's mouth. Glad I didn't bother with it and why is it so fucking dark?
>>
>>68011994
It's clear he didn't give a shit about people. He probably drowned countless people in the tsunami he caused in Hawaii. It's just that the MUTOs were fucking shit up more than he was.
>>
>>68026329
From what I've heard the blu ray transfer is pretty damn bad. Can anyone confirm?
>>
>>68011985
Godzilla was in this more than he was in the original film, you fucking pleb.
