They can't imagine a war without stars, Death stars in particular, they can't understand that wars amongst the stars can be intresting too. Have you ever seen those movies giving any role to the real star? Any particular star? White dwarf, red giant? Brown dwarf, blue giant? Those are not just static objects, they can be used to the strategic advantage(who has better heat shields), stars can explode, stars can transform, stars can irradiate.
