Consider this, in the jewish faith you're actually allowed to sever the foreskin without anesthetic of a baby, just to bring them closer to your god.
This is tolerated in the modern day, simply because Judaism is established across 1st world countries.
The more established a religion, the more normal it seems and thus it's accepted, the reason Scientology seems silly by comparison is because it's an upstart, fringe religion.
If judaism was a fringe religion or otherwise not established in the 1st world, the public would not tolerate them coming from other countries to perform such rituals.

We all know that even the established religions were money makers when they were founded and some still are.

This is barbarism but it's accepted because it's established.
There seems to be this perception that if a religion is older it's somehow more real, but they were all created at some point, it just becomes harder to pinpoint facts that dismantle the faith because so many more people have contributed to it over centuries as opposed to upstart religions.

He did things like staging reenactments of SeaOrg tortures using ex-Scientology ex-SeaOrg people in a closed studio knowing full well CoS ops will tresspass into the property to stop the proceedings, and they did.
