Has there ever been a moment in a show that was more shocking/a twist than this?
>>
>>67934478

Everyone pretty much knew about it because of the books though.

I would say the Twin Peaks finale
>>
>>67934503
Not taking the books into account though.

tbqh it was still pretty shocking in the books.

You basically knew it was coming in the show but first time reading that in the books that was pretty shocking. The impact didn't even feel as great, especially when the rest of the episode was a letdown.

most shocking twist in the show was not including LSH,i still remember reading the ASOS epilouge.poor Merret
>>

I knew the title of the episode so it was pretty obvious some murderin' would go down.
>>
>>67934503
No, they didn't. There was a huge number of "Thank you book-readers for not spoiling" threads on various forums after that episode. Same thing after Oberyn vs. the Mountain.

Did people know about it on /tv/? Probably, but only because 4chan harbours disproportionately large numbers of people who revel in ruining things for other people with spoilers and shit.

LOST you plebeian. How can you browse /tv/ and not know this?
>>
>>67935780
Lost is ancient now and doesn't hold up without shitposting about it during the week between episodes. I'm not surprised newer anons don't know about it.
>>
>>67934478

I was lucky enough to watch the first 4 seasons of Game of Thrones completely spoiler free/no previous knowledge/etc.

Honestly Ned getting killed at the end season 1 was slightly more shocking than the Red Wedding IMO, but yes those are probably 1-2 for me.
>>
>>67934478
When they Rains of Castamere started playing I got goosebumps, this scene was perfect.
>>
you mean that specific scene? it wasn't shocking at all. we already knew the Lannisters were behind this and that this dude was a traitor at that point.

he was such a faggot in his last scene. let his mommy do all the talking. his final word was literally "mother".
>>
the only thing shocking in that scene was stabbing the unborn baby, which didn't even happen in the books, so fuck all the bookfags for pretending people were actually shocked that the show killed off main characters, because that happened way too much at that point in the show for it to actually be shocking.

I miss LOST so much, no other show can ever replace the void it left in me.

I was one of the few people actually satisfied with the ending though. I hated it the first time I watched it live, but after watching it again a few years later it started to grow on me.

This was pretty severe. If you don't know it's coming, which I didn't when I first saw it about a decade ago, it just smacked you right in the gut.
>>
>>67936823
How? He never lost a battle. He was a good general. His only mistake was fucking the wrong coochie
>>
I read the GOT books beforehand so I can't speak on that twist.

I gotta say the scene in Breaking Bad when Walt watches Jane choke to death is the moment that has shocked me the most. I figured Walt would try and kill her at some point or that she would OD regardless, but just the way everything played out so quickly really threw me for a loop.

Walt weeping as she died, then wiping the tears away and immediately trying to rationalize her death is a moment Breaking Bad never really topped IMO
>>
>>67937158
I read up until a feast for cucks but I couldn't get more than 20 pages into it because it was so goddamned boring
>>
>>67935875
Same for me actually, anon. I started watching the show when it was in its mid-third season and I did it completely spoiler-free. Ned being kill shocked me more, bc I thought he was the main character and I don't care for the 'lmao Sean Bean dies in everything' meme. After I had caught up on the show, I just spoiled everything. And it's a good thing, it keeps me less disappointed on how every character I like gets killed.
>>
>>67937225
you made the smart choice
>>
>>67934694
I haven't read the books and I feel like I missed an episode or two from season 5 since this shit really made no sense to me
>>
>>67937225
You can literally skip the whole book and go to ADWD. Then you can skip all of Dany's ADWD chapters except the last one because nothing happens. At which point you start realizing that that dude needs an editor with balls.
>>
>>67937612
They were running out of food and trapped in the snow and he saw it as the only way to save all his men.
>>
>>67937612
Don't worry it makes no sense that Stannis would burn his daughter anyway, just a shock value Showrunner addition like killing most of Johns friends at the end of season 4.
>>
>>67937612

Because it literally makes no sense. They just added that scene because they needed some more shock to throw at the audience, and they hate Stannis, so the scene would make the audience hate him as well.

They had to kill Pyp and Green because the show omitted too many characters from Jons story. That wouldn't happen if they didn't cut so much material.

The first few episodes of lost were full of neat things

They wanted to remind audiences that Stannis was totally a villain since he was portrayed as the only hero for a while accidentally.

What about when the president was behind the assassination of Palmer
>>
>>67934590
This, the Red Wedding was a huge letdown on TV. Whole episode felt really cheesy to me. The slowly building dread in the book is untouchable. And Catelyn losing her fucking mind as she's being killed is one GRRM's best moments. He's not a great writer, in terms of prose, but that chapter shows that he's capable of good work.

I can't even imagine how long it would take him to write this shit if he held himself to that standard throughout the series, though.
>>
>>67943265
Yeah, that too, but I think with nina and then Teri it was one of the first of this kind of thing, certainly in the modern, flagship show era, and that made it all the more shocking. Now you kind of expect massive twists in shows, particularly in season finales. With 24, when the first season was originally airing you were not only shocked by what happened, but also the fact that it happened.

Tbh I think this is also why the end of season 3 of 24 was so good. Having set the trend for shocking season finales they ended that with a long, pretty understated shot of a man crying. Pretty effective imo senpai
