If The Simpsons all of a sudden hired a bunch of god-tier writers and had a drastic increase in quality, would people acknowledge that The Simpsons made a comeback or even notice in the first place, or is it just too cool to automatically hate The Simpsons now?
>>
I honestly can't think of a single person I know right now that actually watches the new simpsons episodes.
If the simpsons actually got back on point and had decent episodes again instead of being another staple of american television that just exists in the background I'm sure we'd hear about it from media sources first and then people would embrace the show again.
Otherwise everyone will be doing what they are now- watching all the good episodes on FX.
>>
>>67871964
you'd need to fix the animation too

basically the whole things needs to be overhauled
>>
I'd notice it and acknowledge it, but it wouldn't happen overnight. The few who still watch regularly would notice it and try to convince others, but if the overall public perception of new Simpsons changed it would sadly probably be the result from social media bullshit or reddit posts of the "now-funny-again" Simpsons.
>>
>>67871964
Didn't they bring back one of the original writers to male an epispde for this season?
>>
There was a brief period several years ago when I tried watching the show again, and I was surprised to see that it had actually gotten fairly decent and I told a few people about it at the time... I think it only lasted every other episode for like a season or so though.
I tried watching again last year but it was mind-numbingly painful garbage.

I think at this point they would need to fire absolutely everyone except the voice actors... and even they would need to be retrained for like a year or more.

It would be better to just bury the dead horse.
>>
>>67871964
the haters would continue ignoring any evidence that the show is still occasionally funny, so yes, it's just too cool to automatically hate any Simpsons past season 8.
>>
>>67871964

The only people that still watch The Simpsons are beaners, and by beaners I mean illegal immigrant mexicans, their anchor babies, and mexican-americans.
>>

I don't think that could be possible anymore.

Early simpsons really sucked
Then somewhere between 1994-2000 it was really good. Some time after 2001 or 2002 is when it went to real shit. I'm not sure what writers or directors they lost. But even the voice-actors in it weren't the same anymore.

I went back to it just recently last season & this season and it had some decent episodes. Better than 2004 or w/e quality. But it's still not where it was.

I'm going to say something provocative.

The simpsons never declined.

Go rewatch the early simpsons, and see how many times you laugh. Then watch the later simpsons and notice, it's similar jokes, but neither really are "funny". Overall the simpsons aren't that funny as a show. They didn't decline, people just got bored with animation.

The uniqueness of a animated tv show that acted like a real show, that had plot, situations and "comedy" is what sold the Simpsons, BUT Simpsons were never as funny as we remember them. It was just a unique way to tell the same jokes.

Futurama, south park and even family guy started ACTUALLY telling jokes, and using the full range of humor that some shows have done, but the Simpsons just were an animated show that showed a bad boy on television. Novel at the time, but worthless now.

The problem with the Simpsons, as I've come to see it, is that they've basically wrung out everything the premise/setting has to offer.

Even with better writers who actually gave a damn about the end product, there would only be so much they could do to make fresh material without having to rehash old plots (like the show has been doing for however many seasons), try to use topical humor to provide new content (which the show has already been doing), or going straight into post-modern Grant Morrison bullshit. No, the show is screwed, one way or another.

>>
>>67883544
>Explain this shitty buzzword you picked up from somebody else to explain "le golden age"

Here's what it mean:

The old animation was hand drawn and colored. This led to natural idiosyncrasies, and an overall more organic viewing, not to mention overall quality as pen and paper always trumps computer shit (same way models in movies > cgi).

>The jokes and storylines in the early simpsons are all copied storylines and references from the 90's and and 80's.

No they weren't, stupid. How does Mr. Burns signing up major beleaguers for his company softball team compare today's "Lisa becomes friends with lesbian programmers" or "Bart mades a pop culture joke about twitter".

>You seem to not even know that you're arguing for

There's a way to WEAVE pop culture/history/whatever into storylines/jokes without having it be the actual storyline/joke. Millennial twats like you wouldn't understand such things as Simpsons nowadays hits you over the head with everything.

They can't. I've been listening to the commentaries lately and they say one of the reasons they changed it was because traditional animation was a dying artform and they were simply running out animators who could do the job.

you can very much reference a real world event as basis for a story.

Peter Shaffer read about a boy in the paper who stabbed six horses in the eyes with a hoof pick. He wondered why, so he wrote a story about it, called Equus. It won the Tony for best play.

General comedies dont age that well, that's why it might be less funny now then at the time it came out. But I'm completely confused how you could not see a decline in quality of the show from something like season 6 to now. What metric of storytelling could there possibly be that you would come to the conclusion that they're about the same quality?

>family guy and futurama use a wider range of comedy
This one actually hurts my soul, because it's the exact reason why the Simpsons is great. The range of comedy in the early Simpsons was huge. From the episode storylines (the difference between a Oakley, Conan, or swartzwelder episode) to the variety of jokes within an episode (absurdist, observational, slapstick). Most sitcoms tell a few jokes well and basically repackage it in different ways, that's why shows get stale. But the Simpsons was extremely versatile and inventive.
