I will say people overplay how much he's supposedly "pushing" Jaden on audiences though, we haven't seen that little faggot in anything for 5 years, and it's because of After Earth he decided not to do ID4 Part Deux since the plot they wanted was too similar, not to mention how much of a blessing it is to the writers since that way there's more of an equal allotment of characterization for the cast.

Cruise got big before anyone really knew what scientology was, same with Travolta, by the time the genie was out of the bottle they were big stars that could make dependable bank on films of their genre. They're just viewed as kooks by the public and are allowed to make the ocasional floppy film. Smith became a Scientologist a bit later when people were more aware what that meant and on top of that blotted his copybook with execs by shoehorning his son into everything (they wouldn't have minded if his son had been as popular as his dad, but he wasn't).
The other problem Smith has is that he is typecast himself as a young jive-talking cool black man and it becomes increasingly dificult to convincingly pull off playing a young jive-talking cool black man once you're past 30. Afterall how many films do you see Eddy Murphy in these days?

What's funny is Deadshot's background is he's from old white people money and was a curly mustasche gentleman thief before he became an emo mercenary, meanwhile Cyborg's origin is like the most basic one imaginable that could have happened to ANYONE, high school student nearly dies in accident and their scientist father saves their life by rebuilding them as a cyborg, none of that is dependent on him being black.
