for me, it's in space. it just seemed like such a legit connected story going on compared to the previous 6 seasons where pretty much every episode was a self contained story where a thing happens, a monster shows up, they fight, morph, monster gets big, break out the zords, win, end of episode. stopped watching after time force because i grew up.

It's not the same as an episode here or a season there. Adult PR fans aren't a big enough demographic to justify the costs involved of making a movie just for us.

Considering all the baddies at that time were far far away from earth or inactive it wouldn't have made much sense. During In Space all the bad guys active at that point were all in the same galaxy. Which is why he chose to do it right then and there.
Plus he didn't have the option of destroying his tube back then. The tube Zordon was being connected too at that moment was zapping his powers from another dimension pretty much storing them like a giant battery. Imagine if you put more volts in a battery than it's meant to store it would give off way more energy than it usually would but it was also blow up. Zordon's In Space tube was like that. It was a battery with a large chunk of his power forced together and instead of having that power fall into evil hands he made the choice to expel it all out at the cost of his connection to this world (or his life some say he died due to it)
