Nah, they're probably just mad that they had to sit through a poorly written movie where the entire premise is retarded (No serious historian disputes that there was a guy who called himself Jesus and founded christianity, and there's no law against comparing historical figures to christ, especially when the figure being compared is a fucking preacher.) and the ACLU, one of the best nonprofits in existence, is completely demonized.

Christians are the most oppressed and persecuted peoples in the world today.

And I'm not talking about meme oppression like suffering microaggresions or cultural appropriation, they are literally being opressed by the law or being outright genocided in much of the world

http://www.pewforum.org/2014/01/14/religious-hostilities-reach-six-year-high/

The conclusion of this report was that Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world.

And incase you were wondering about Pew's credentials

>The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan American think tank which is based in Washington, D.C. It provides information on social issues, public opinion, and demographic trends shaping the United States and the world. It also conducts public opinion polling, demographic research, media content analysis, and other empirical social science research. Pew Research Center does not take explicit policy positions, and is a subsidiary of The Pew Charitable Trusts.[2][3]
>>
>>67809939
But the point of the movie is that US government and ACLU prosecuted Christians, it frames Christians as a persecuted minority who are merely trying to keep their dying faith alive by occasionally proselytizing in schools. There’s nothing wrong with expressing one’s faith in the public school system, right?
>>
>>67809532
I'd be more inclined to say the people involved with this film haven't heard of Nietzsche and they chose the title "god's not dead" because it sounds provocative and captivating. It's just affirming a bunch of fundamental Christians beliefs so it's quite a redundant series of movies
>>

>are the most persecuted

No, that's your conclusion. I'm assuming you based it off of the fact that Christians were persecuted in the most countries, 110 vs the Muslims 109.. But Christians are an enourmous religious group, over 1/4 of all people alive on earth. Jews were persecuted in 70 countries, while being less than 1% of the global population, so I'd argue they probably win the most persecuted thing, as they have done for centuries.

You fail at basic reading comprehension fuck wit. Christians make up over a quarter of the earth's population so proportionally to their size they're by far the least harassed or "oppressed" group.

If there's 10,000 Christians and 50 are harassed, they are not a more oppressed group than if there's 20 Muslims and 19 are harassed because 50 is a bigger number than 19.

I'm not surprised that your typical /pol/tard hasn't passed Stat 101 before spamming their studies and inforgraphs.
>>
how thick is MJH?
>>
>>67810005
Students can if they feel like it. But owing to the teacher student power dynamic, it's unethical for a teacher to proselytize in the classroom. Which is not to say that they can't compare historical figures to Jesus, that's fine. Especially if it's the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., who was a living Christ figure, complete with getting martyred for the cause.

I don't know if you realize this but most modern American Christians have this childish concept of a god.

They also believe they will live in a cloud city called Heaven, see their dead loved ones there, eat all the most delicious food they could imagine, and meet Jesus face to face.

This was a part of the last sermon I sat through on Easter last week.

Are you implying religious people tend to think otherwise? It's an integral part of their religion.

Don't be stupid.

Religion has its perks. Don't believe a single bit of the bullshit, but I have been pretending most of my life and it landed me a nice job, and hot wife.
>>
>>67813606
>Why did he think this was a good idea?
To show that even the most powerful man in the Church is still a humble servant. To show that his service, like that of all Christians is to all people.
It's a lot harder to justify dehumanising and lowering Muslims when your God's Earthly representative will wash and kiss their feet.

Right now there's a very live issue of how (mainly Christian) Europeans are treating (mainly Muslim) refugees and migrants. He is trying to help with that issue. Although historic child abuse is a terrible problem, it's already widely acknowledged as a bad thing. He doesn't need to convince anyone that fucking children is bad. But he does need to convince people that sacrificing for the good of strangers is good.

Well of course. There are smart people who are religious who live by the principles taught and preached by the stories in whatever text they follow and use it to inform their life rather than believe in a sky God and that they will enter the pearly gates.

But that's not the type of person who typically follows mass religion, as you imply, and not the kind of people the church are particularly interested in.

Our "natural state" is to have those delusions. Not specifically the monotheistic creator god, but the human mind seems strongly biased towards finding human-like causes for things.

Why did your sheep die in the night but your neighbour's is fine? Because you annoyed some spirit or god while the neighbour pleased them.
Everything happens for a reason, and our mind is set up to understand human reasons for things.

Just as we find it easy to see a face in the random blotches on toasted bread, we find it easy to see deliberate action in the natural world.

Why did we develop such a keen sense for seeing human causes for things? Because we evolved in social groups, where those that were better able to see and understand the behaviour of other humans were at an advantage. The problem is we apply that thinking to everything else in the world too.

Yeah, and I'm saying that we're predisposed towards finding human-like answers for why things happen.
Which is why it took a lot of work to arrive at "it's raining because of a low air pressure front coming in from over the sea". Whereas "it's raining because Zeus willed it" comes very readily to the human mind.

Even with knowledge, people's minds love to jump to the human-like explanations. "I got cancer because I was being tested" rather than "I got cancer because of cell mutations, the chance of which was enhanced by exposure to various carcinogens."

I'm not a theist, but I can see the appeal, and at the end of the day for all we do know about our universe and the origin of life, literally no one knows for sure how we all got here and what happens after we die, if anything.

I'd be a Christian if I could bring myself to believe it's central ideas to be true, but I can't. I tried for years, but I just don't see any evidence for it. I do like most of Christianity's core principals though, and culturally I am very much a Christian. I simply don't believe in any of the supernatural claims.

Yeah, in 10th grade I moved from California to Oklahoma. I went to a teeny tiny school in southern Oklahoma (my graduating class was 25 people) and 99.9% of the community were Southern Baptists and they all went to church together (everyone would talk about shit that happened at church yesterday on Monday because they were all there). For the first couple weeks everyone was more or less nice to me/indifferent. One day someone asked me why they didn't see me at church and I told them because I wasn't a Baptist and then people spent the rest of the next couple days interrogating me about my religious beliefs.

By the next week I was pretty much ostracized for the rest of the time I was at that school. Literally no one aside of teachers would talk to me anymore. I loved it because I couldn't stand people my age as a teenager.

I really need to watch that movie someday. It came out when I was 3 years old, but apparently all the adults in my family ended up seeing it when it was new, and all my life I've heard my family talk about how it's the worst most satanic piece of blasphemous heresy ever made and that the people responsible for it should have been shot or imprisoned, or both.

My grandma even refused to ever watch another movie by Universal again (as far as I know she kept good on that promise until she died). I remember once when I was like 7 me and my sister saw a commercial for Universal Studios and we were talking about how we want to go there and our grandma told us that we're never going there and that movie was why.

I've always wondered what they all found so horrible and offensive and wrong about it.

Please don't let the "critics" discourage you. Before going to the theater, I read many of the professional reviews on Flixster. I paid for a ticket anyway and witnessed a completely different movie. God's Not Dead 2 actually featured compelling acting, an engaging courtroom drama with an unexpected twist, powerful music, compassionate personal connections between characters, and an example of a strong woman who stuck to her personal convictions, which just happened to violate today's skewed definition of "diversity" and interpretation of the First Amendment. Some critics remarked that the movie features "paranoid" or conspiratorial themes to promote the false belief that Christians are persecuted. However, those who watch the news (e.g., beheadings of Christians, public ridicule of belief in God by intelligent ones, silencing of student free speech that is not politically correct, removal of references to God and Christianity from public places) and read the list of approximately 30 cases at the end of the movie (which documents real legal cases in which Christians defended themselves against legal action), understand that this situation is more realistic than many "based on a true story" movies that are praised by the same bunch of groupthink critics who condemned this movie. This is a moving, realistic movie that inspires people to stand up for their beliefs and treat others with compassion, both messages that should be universally lauded. Watch it and you'll see what I'm talking about.

It portrays Jesus in a "what if" sense, as a flawed human who fucks up and makes mistakes and gives into temptation like anyone else, and had he done all these things then his death would have been no more significant than that of anyone else. It also suggest that while he was free of sin, he still held the same emotions and feelings as every other human being, such as fear and doubt and desire etc.

It's a fantastic movie and there's nothing anti-Christian or sacrilegious about it (it's very pro-Jesus and just makes him look even better) but lots of people have trouble with any suggestion that Jesus may have had a more human, less perfect side.

ok biased idiot. being able to point to something which disproportionately affects X group does not mean X group is facing a real systemic problem, especially not an external one.

for example if you want to say 'black urban culture is shit and screws black people over' is a systemic problem then whatever. but other problems you claim are systemic need to take that into account. just throwing around ratios of people in prison and pretending everything else is symmetrical makes you either stupid or intellectually dishonest.

I'll agree with that, that there is a double standard when it comes to negative portrayals of Christians and white people and men in our media and popular culture. Of course this is due to the retarded attitude that x group marginalized x other group a long time ago therefore they've got no right to complain about anything mean spirited we throw at them now.

Then again, there are plenty of situations like the whole Duck Dynasty fiasco where someone did the exact opposite of the above, then the outcry of support was so huge from like minded people that the people who fired him reinstated him because there were far more people offended by him being fired than there were offended by what he actually said.

So it all really comes down to your audience and what's going to hurt profits more in our wonderful capitalistic society.

What are you talking about? I don't think that gerrymandering is a thing only southern politicians do, of course, but when southern politicians do it, they often do with the purpose of disenfranchising their states' minority populations.

Oh certainly, no one with half a brain who reads the news regularly would suggest that there's no where on earth where Christians are persecuted (of course in the middle east with the exception of Israel, everyone who isn't Muslim is persecuted).

It's kind of like when feminists in the US cry about how oppressed they as women are in our society. It's fucking laughable and pathetic. But there are plenty of places on the planet where women are in fact treated like complete shit and those complaints would be absolutely valid (and coincidentally most of them are in the aforementioned middle eastern countries).

No, it's for the purpose of getting elected. Exactly the same as when democrats do it. There aren't kentucky aristocrats twirling their handlebar mustaches in back rooms laughing about how they're keeping darky down like you're fantasizing about.

They gerrymander in a way that helps republican votes matter more and that happens to coincide with reducing the power of black votes because black people vote democrat. I could say exactly the same thing in the other direction: Democrats gerrymander in a way that helps make black votes matter more than white votes because black voters are disproportionately democrats. You just don't give a shit about this because 'white conservatives' aren't on your official oppression list like 'black liberals' are.

I am not fantasizing about anything. I think you are the one with the fantasy here. Here is a excerpt from a SCOTUS case (Shelby County):

>A recent FBI investigation provides a further window into the persistence of racial discrimination in state politics. See United States v. McGregor, 824 F. Supp. 2d 1339,
1344–1348 (MD Ala. 2011). Recording devices worn by state legislators cooperating with the FBI’s investigation captured conversations between members of the state legislature and their political allies. The recorded conversations
are shocking. Members of the state Senate derisively refer to African-Americans as “Aborigines” and talk openly of their aim to quash a particular gambling-related referendum because the referendum, if placed on the ballot, might increase African-American voter turnout.
>>
>>67818088
Screwed up the copy and paste/greentext job here, but you get the gist. Congress also compiled plenty of instances of systematic disenfranchisement when they reauthorized the Voting Rights Act last time.
>>
>>67817859
The persecution of Christians, Jews, and Sikhs has been going on in that region since before drones even existed.
>>
>>67818088
Did you understand the second paragraph of what I wrote? Any gerrymandering is going to correspond to changing the ratio of different groups voting because said groups aren't uniformly politically dispersed. If the democrats could wave their magic wands they'd stop white people from voting. It's just harder to do that since white people are a majority.

And maybe there are some instances of people holding racist attitudes while gerrymandering. Just like there are probably white male hating liberal politicians. The underlying purpose is still to win and not to disenfranchise. You're focusing on a side effect of the actual cause because asymmetries in our society percolate through. And again: you don't give a shit when those asymmetries are swinging the other way.

I'm presuming this because he wants to talk about one corollary of a trend while completely ignoring the corresponding corollary going the other direction. Saying "black votes matter less than white votes in conservatively gerrymandered states" exactly corresponds with "black votes matter more than white votes in liberally gerrymandered states". Trying to use this as evidence as evidence of systemic oppression of only one of those groups is either ignorance or bias.

I'd agree more with the people who don't like the film if there wasn't a consistent narrative in the New Testament that Christ truly experienced doubt and temptation intentionally before his arrival as a Messiah.
